Dr. Thomas P. Sculco was Surgeon-in-Chief at Hospital for Special Surgery from 2003 to 2014 and is currently Surgeon-in-Chief Emeritus. He is also Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College.
Dr. Sculco's research interests are currently centered on improvements in surgical technique and preventing failure of hip and knee implants. He has recently created the Complex Joint Reconstruction Center to improve outcomes and promote basic and clinical research in these most complex patients. He serves as the Director of this Center. He has been awarded both the Otto Aufranc and the Charnley Award from the Hip Society for his work with thrombogenesis in total hip replacement.
