About

Dr. Timothy J. Juelson is a fellowship trained orthopaedic sports surgeon who joined The Bone & Joint Center in 2011. He is board certified. In 2014 Dr. Juelson became the first orthopaedic surgeon in North Dakota to earn a certificate of added qualification in orthopaedic sports surgery. This is the highest level of certification available in orthopaedic surgery. Dr. Juelson has served as a team physician locally for the University of Mary, Bismarck Wolves, St. Mary’s High School, Dakota Wizards and Women’s NBA. He was also a team physician for Auburn University’s National Championship football team in 2010. Education is a lifelong pursuit and Dr. Juelson teaches orthopaedic surgeons from around the world complex orthopaedic sports procedures at the Orthopaedic Learning Center in Chicago, IL.

A native of North Dakota, Dr. Juelson earned a bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in chemistry at Jamestown College. He also competed in track & field under legendary Rollie Greeno. Dr. Juelson earned his medical degree at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences. While at UNDSMHS he co-authored multiple papers in peer reviewed journals and presented at a national meeting where he received recognition for one of his research projects.

Dr. Juelson completed an orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Missouri at Kansas City. During that time he worked with the Kansas City Royals organization. In his last year of residency his research project won a national poster competition.

Following residency training, Dr. Juelson completed a Sports Medicine fellowship at The Andrews Institute in Gulf Breeze, FL. He worked side-by-side with renowned sports surgeons Dr. James Andrews and Dr. Leon Paulos. During fellowship Dr. Juelson worked on a daily basis with high school, collegiate, and professional athletes from around the world. Additional time was spent utilizing non-operative treatments, helping many patients to avoid surgery. He served as a team physician to the University of West Florida national championship baseball team, Washington High School, Gulf Coast Community College, and Gulf Breeze High School football.

When surgery is necessary, Dr. Juelson often utilizes minimally invasive arthroscopic techniques. Dr. Juelson’s surgical interests include treatment of the shoulder, elbow, knee and hip. He has a special interest in ACL reconstruction, patella dislocations, multiple ligament knee injuries, meniscus transplants, articular cartilage repair, cartilage transplant, shoulder dislocations, limb realignment and joint preservation.

Dr. Juelson enjoys educating others about orthopaedic sports surgery, including students at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and the University of Mary.

Currently, Dr. Juelson is a fellow of the Arthroscopy Association of North America, American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Juelson is president of the North Dakota Orthopaedic Society.
