PSA: Please remember to research breeds before you adopt. Some require regular grooming due to their hypoallergenic fur (aka they don’t shed). When these type of breeds aren’t groomed regularly, their fur becomes matted and can become so inhuman that their skin begins to tear.
Tracy Animal Services has recently brought in two dogs that were extremely matted and beginning stages of being detrimental to the animals health.
Please, if you are interested in this type of breed, understand that grooming (whether you take the task on yourself or pay for the service) is required.

With the recent rainfall and now Winter here in the Bay Area... we are starting to see mushrooms pop up in yards, parks, woods, trails, etc. It's important to stay vigilant and get familiar with the most dangerous mushrooms types and learn how to recognize the symptoms in your dog! Below is a list of highly toxic mushrooms to you dog.
Symptoms include:
Vomiting
Diarrhea
Stomach pain
Fever
Weakness
Inactivity
Bleeding
Yellowing of the skin
Uncoordinated movements
Strong heartbeat
Excessive drooling
Seizures
Coma
If your dog may have been poisoned, contact you veterinarian immediately; there is no home treatment for toxic mushroom ingestion. If there are any mushrooms left, bring one for identification purposes. All four SAGE hospitals are open 24/7, 365 days. We are here for you when you need us.

During the holidays, plants play a prominent role in festive decorations. With a little effort, you can keep your pets and your plants safe.
Be mindful of these decorative plants that are toxic to dogs and cats. In mild cases, nausea, vomiting and intestinal upset and discomfort may result; in severe cases, the toxicity can lead to more severe health problems, and even fatalities.
If you suspect your pet has ingested one of these plants, please call the ASPCA Poison Control #1-888-426-4435, 24 hours a day or contact your nearest SAGE.
