Over $100K in Awarded in Arbitration
Our client was awarded over $100K in arbitration after being stopped at a stop sign when her car was struck in the rear. There was no damage to the cars and our client had some shoulder pain after the accident. Throw back to our Summer 1997 newsletter. In this picture is a former secretary that was with the firm for many years before relocating. We still keep in touch with her and she has remained a member of the Tremont Sheldon Robinson Mahoney family albeit far away. Our clients and staff are our extended family. Even when your case is resolved, you are still part of the family.

When Doug Mahoney was interviewed by channel 12 news on the Pennsylvania Grand Jury report on the catholic church abuse scandal. "The statute of limitations is a real problem because if you want to do something civilly in Connecticut, to pursue some type of claim, you only have a certain amount of time to do it," Mahoney says. "So any effort the church can make to lengthen that statute of limitations or abandon the statute of limitations, I think would be a good step."http://bit.ly/2qQhqWI
$45K Settlement Side Swiped by Bus
Our client received $45K settlement as a result of being side swiped by a bus on I-95. Liability was hotly contested and the bus driver blamed our client for the collision. The insurance company took a 'no pay' position but after the case was filed in court and depositions taken, the company agreed to settle the matter. https://bit.ly/2M98sws

Congratulations to Legal Assistant, Pat Motkin, on her 10th year anniversary with the firm. She is Jason Tremont's legal assistant and the friendly face that greets all of our clients when they come into the office - albeit now behind plexiglass. 10 years seem to have gone by very fast!

Frequently Asked Questions During Covid-19
Are workers’ compensation cases moving forward?
Yes. Commissioners have continued to schedule and hold informal hearings with attorneys by telephone throughout the pandemic. Formal hearings have also successfully proceeded via videoconferencing. With the consent of all counsel, parties and witnesses, in-person formal hearings have also recently resumed in some districts. https://bit.ly/3jlMIe2
How long do I have to file a personal injury claim or case?
Under the law, you generally have 2 years from the date of the injury to file a personal injury lawsuit that is based on the negligent conduct of another person or entity. There are exceptions for example under current Connecticut law, any person who claims damages as a result of being sexually abused, sexually assaulted or sexually exploited as a child has until 30 years past the age of majority (typically until age 48) in which to file a claim in court. However, if you claim damages as a result of being sexually assaulted as an adult, then you have a much shorter time period in which to file a lawsuit. http://bit.ly/2OgxfRA

As the pandemic continues, our elderly population is particularly hit hard whether from not seeing friends or family and not being able to shop or grab a cup of coffee with friends. Please reach out to our older friends, neighbors and family members. Sometimes a quick chat or a piece of mail can really pick up someone's spirits. Several local senior centers offer both in person and electronic programming such as the Bigelow Center in Fairfield and the Monroe Senior Center. They both have many resources listed as well. https://bit.ly/2Udnm7G
