The most common question most people ask me is, "How accurate is a polygraph"? The answer is it depends on what type of test is being run. There are basically two types of test commonly offerred to the general public, a single issue exam or a screening exam. Single issue exams are the most usually the most accurate. This is because the focus is on one single issue (Did you harm that person, Did you steal the money, Did you have sex with someone other than your spouse..) These types of exams have been found to have between 90% to 93% accuracy rates (depending on which studies you are looking at)
The second type of exam is more of a screening exam. That is your asking questions about multiple issues or mixed issues. These less accurate because the questions they are not as focused as single issue exams. Depending on the format the examiner is using even a screen exam can have an accuracy rate between 83% and 88% rate (again depending on the studies you look at).
Congrats to all the Law Enforcement groups that worked to identify the New York/New Jersey bomber! 36 hours from time of detonation to capture is fantastic!
I add a little piece of art work to my office wall.

My offices are on the property of Livermore RV and Boat storage off of Southfront Dr. in Livermore. The property is under construction but when it is complete it will be a great office for conducting polygraph exams. The property is closed to the public so it is very private and quiet. I will add some before photos and after photos.
One of the most frequent calls I receive is related to infidelity. Often times the client is concerned with their significant other having sex with multiple people who they both know. The client often wants to know which one of their friends or if all of their mutual friends are the offender. Here is my answer to them and something you should consider if your in a similar situation. Whether it's one of your friends or all of your friends, will it make a difference? They key question is always the same. Have they had sex with anyone else but YOU since the start of your relationship?.
As a polygraph examiner, I want to give the client the best exam with the highest level of accuracy rate available. The more issues packed into an exam, the lower the accuracy rate goes. Asking about all of their friends will not give them a reliable exam and would simply be a waste of their money and time.
Food for thought.
