First advisory on TD 13.
It took awhile, but the the strong tropical wave in the Atlantic is now 13th depression of the season. It won't be long before it becomes Tropical Storm "Laura".
Couple of thoughts:
* This is one that has to be watched, because the general track looks to be towards Florida and the Gulf. Unlike "Isaias", the sub-tropical ridge north of the depression is forecasted to be stronger, which could prevent the storm from turning out to sea before it reaches Florida and or the Gulf.
* This is another one of those low confidence intensity forecasts. The GFS and the European models have not predicted much intensification at all during their most recent model runs. Sooner or later, the models will have to jump on board, or we may not be seeing much of a storm. Other hurricane models have indeed shown intensification, and the environment certainly looks conducive for strengthening.
* Land interactions with Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, and Cuba may play a role in the strength and track of the storm.
* Now that we have a well defined center, plan on revisions to the intensity and track forecast. Follow along here for updates.
* Regardless of what becomes of this storm, you should have your hurricane supplies all set by now. We are entering the peak of the season and the last thing you want to do is rushing to the store the day before a storm impacts us. It's a real big hassle. Preparing early and having a plan will save you a lot of stress.
Trust in this man!

Interesting and difficult forecast for Florida including our Tampa Bay area.
Stronger tropical systems move in response to large features in the atmosphere. Weaker systems have a tendency to just move along with the general wind flow in the lower atmosphere. Some of the models have trended west today based on ISAIAS being a weaker system than earlier forecast. It's tough to say how it will play out, but there is certainly a higher likelihood of a tropical storm or hurricane making landfall on the east coast. Hurricane warnings may be issued later today.
What does this mean for the Tampa Bay area? Well, it increases the chances for some squally weather (heavy showers with gusty winds) Sunday. I still think it will be manageable, with the heaviest rain and wind staying just to our east. Lots to digest and I will be updating you here and on FOX 13 News - Tampa Bay
