Ladders and stairways are another source of injuries and fatalities among construction workers. The winter months can speed up deterioration in porous concrete that absorbs water through its pores and capillaries. The freezing water contained in the pore structure will expand as it is converted into ice. The expansion causes force that fractures the surrounding concrete matrix which eventually leads to spalls and delamanitions. This is known as freeze-thaw damage.
How can we help protect your concrete? Consider water repellent treatments and elastomeric coatings.

5 Signs You’re Overworking Your Construction Equipment
“More than $800 million is invested annually in New York’s historic buildings, creating jobs for 9,000 New Yorkers and providing paychecks of over $500 million each year,” according to the New York Landmarks Conservancy findings. Because rehabbing an old building is labor-intensive, the report argues, more of the money from these projects feeds back into the local economy.

When the building was built, they did not install enough flexible control joints to accommodate the natural expansion and contraction of the brick. The result was unsightly fractures which led to water infiltration. Our scope included repairing the fractures by replacing the bricks along the fractures. Then, we installed a multitude of control joints so that the new joints would absorb the expansion and contraction instead of causing it to re-crack.

As we know, cities are a hotbed for artists, designers, and other creative workers. According to the analysis, creatives seek out older buildings in part because they believe the unique spaces and rich historic details help foster creative thinking. An example of these creative workspaces is the newly announced Central District and Metro Center Upscale Lofts & Business Arcade in Downtown Lima.
