Lane Closure Planned for I-83 SB at Exit 4 in Southern York County
Harrisburg, PA – Motorists in York County are advised a lane will be closed this Friday morning on southbound Interstate 83 just north of the Exit 4 off-ramp to Route 851 in Shrewsbury Township so a PennDOT contractor can repair an attenuator at the exit ramp.
The right (travel) lane of southbound I-83 will closed at approximately 9 AM Friday, September 25. The work is expected to be completed and the lane open to traffic by early afternoon.
The ramp will remain open during this work.
Travelers are reminded to be alert for these operations, to obey work zone signs, and to use caution when driving through work zones for their safety, as well as for the safety of the road crews.

The Exit 4 Diverging Diamond Project is on schedule with completion in the Fall 2021. The Interstate 83 bridge beams have been removed with the box culvert installation ready to start. The excavation area will be 65 feet long and 45 feet deep. Also this Fall will include: Northbound Exit Ramp (Ramp B) rebuilt, rebuild Route 851 in front of Tom's Convenience Store, and pave Northbound Exit Ramp (Ramp B) with base and binder. Completion is close!
Happy Labor Day Weekend! We will be closed on Monday for the holiday. But stop in this weekend and get what you need.

The Exit 4 Contractor set the box culverts for Deer Creek on Wednesday, October 28th. The culvert sections are joined together by mastic, grout and concrete. The interchange will have a traffic shift this year when PA Dot approves the new traffic plan. The new traffic plan will close Tom's current entrances/exits and shift traffic away from the centerline on Route 851. Also the large direction informational sign will be replaced on Route 851 denoting Interstate 83 directions.

The Exit 4 Project Box Culvert will be set on Wednesday, October 28th (65 feet long and 45 feet deep). The Box Culvert is for Deer Creek to flow underneath the Interstate. Guardrail was installed on all portions of the project. The Tom's Convenience Store entrances/exits will be relocated to the signal light at Wolfe Road after Kinsley constructs an access and PA Dot approves a Traffic Plan.

PA Dot rescheduled the traffic switch completion on Route 851 from Mount Airy Road to Wolfe Road until Wednesday, January 6th due to wet conditions. Route 851 will be a single lane on Wednesday, January 6th from 9AM to 3PM. The contractor will paint lines and adjust traffic signals so traffic can be switched from the south side of the road to the newly constructed north side of the road. Please be aware of workers and obey all traffic signs and flaggers. Please drive safely! The work is in conjunction with the Exit 4 Diverging Diamond Project.

The Exit 4 Contractor abandoned the old box culvert that Deer Creek flowed through. The new box culvert was in operation two weeks ago. The contractor drilled three different holes in the box culvert with casing pipes extended to ground level. They used 1600 yards to close the culvert at $150/yard. Also the ADA ramps at Mount Airy Road and Route 851 are formed for a concrete pour.

The bridge beams were set on Tuesday and Wednesday this week with minimal traffic disruptions on Route 851. We did have a signal light malfunction at East Forrest Avenue and Mount Airy Road not related to the construction on Wednesday. The decorative walls were started on the Interchange. All four corners of the interchange will have a decorative wall with the southeast corner a flagpole with donations supplied by various local organizations.

Motorists traveling on Route 851 at the Exit 4 Interchange will experience traffic delays on Tuesday, March 16th and Wednesday, March 17th. Beams will be set over Route 851 and traffic will be stopped up to 15 minutes from 9AM to 2PM. The beam setting is the final stage of the bridge work. Please allow for delays and obey traffic control signs and flaggers. Thanks for your cooperation.
