Hope this message finds you well. With all the disruption to our lives and our schedules, I wanted to remind everyone that spring is here (even with the cold the last few nights) and the trees are blooming beautifully this year. The photo is of our 20 year old weeping cherry that is having one of its best years for blossoms. Last year we were concerned that the tree was dying because it had almost no blossoms. The tree, in all its glory this year, has brought happiness and sense of relief that all is well in nature.
Going on drives out in the countryside is one of our favorite activities and fortunately is still an acceptable activity. The Dogwood and Redbud trees are just now starting to bloom. If you didn't get out recently you did miss the lovely display the Magnolia trees put on for us to enjoy. The Trillium wild flowers are also starting to bloom. They can be seen along the roadside. There's some to be seen in the gullies on the south side of Clear Creek Road between McDonanald Road and Revenge. The drive through Clear Creek metro park is pretty with the trees starting to get their spring green leaves.
One routine that has brought a sense of sanity and calmness is caring for my horses and chickens twice a day. All is normal and good at the barn. Another activity that has helped is my daily walks. During the work week, it usually consisted of 10 to 15 minute walks three times a day. Now My morning walk is 30 to 45 minutes, going down the street and up a pretty steep hill to really get my heart pumping. I feel the fresh air and exercise is helping my immune system. I also still take my antioxidants in the form of Vitamin C and D along with my dark green salads, raspberries and blueberries.
I am gearing up for reopening as soon as possible, once we get the ok. Since the safety and well-being of our patients and staff is our priority, I got a new higher quality filter for our HVAC system and have purchased 4 air purifiers that have UV C light to kill viruses in addition to the HEPA filters. We will also be checking temperatures of employees and patients upon entering. We’ll have masks and shields as well as making sure we have as much social distancing as possible given that there are some testing and activities that require some closer contact. I’m still waiting on more guidance from authorities, but we will also most likely have to make some other changes such as limiting the number of patients and guests in our office. We’ll get it figured out and move forward with a new but hopefully temporary normal.
Stay Healthy and Happy,
Anna Hopkins

One of the best ways to give your eyes love is to get at least 7 - 9 hours of sleep a night. A good night’s rest keeps the eyes ready for the next day and can prevent eye spasms, dryness, itchiness, strain, and bloodshot eyes. It also prevents dark circles from appearing around the eyes — and let's be honest, who wants those?!

It’s time for your eye exam!
As you prepare to chef-it-up this holiday season, keep this in mind as you chop up your next onion! A cut onion releases a gas called Propanethiol S-oxide, and when mixed with certain enzymes in the onion, it creates a sulfur gas that irritates the eyes and triggers your tear glands. Here's a tip: keep your onion refrigerated! Cold onion doesn't release that chemical compound as easily as it would if it were warm.
