Where does addiction start? Many of us imagine loved ones falling under the influence of bad friends, but the truth is it can often start right at home. 70% of substance use disorders starts with easy access to unused pills, the medication that has not been properly disposed of, causing a risk to those in your household. Do the smart thing: regularly check through your medicine cabinet for any leftover opioids and be sure to dispose of them at one of New Jersey’s many Project Medicine drop boxes. You could save a life! #ProjectMedicineDrop #TurningPointNJ #TurnYourLifeAround
The funding of overdose prevention programs is one of the most important issues in the U.S. This is why we are happy to hear The New Jersey Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services and the State Department of Health have funded $290,000 to programs in Camden County aimed at supporting these endeavors. Funding is critical for all nonprofits like Turning Point. If you want to help support the work we do, please consider visiting our donation page at https://www.turningpointnj.org/donations/. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated, and will go a long way in supporting the important recovery services we offer! #TurningPointNJ #TurnYourLifeAround #Donations #SupportTheMission
Yom Kippur in Judaism means the Day of Atonement and is the holiest day of the year. The holiday is a somber one where people fast till sundown when they “break fast” with friends and family. Traditional customs mean attending synagogue for a variety of services throughout the day to pray for forgiveness for mistakes made during the year. It concludes with a special service knows as "Yiskor", where we pray for those we have lost. For those observing, we wish you a good and easy fast! #YomKippur #YomKippur2020 #TurningPointNJ #TurnYourLifeAround
The fight against the opioid epidemic has been a tough and long road in NJ, the arrival of Covid-19 has magnified many of the social pressures that lead to addiction such as rising unemployment, social unrest, and economic declines. When things seem to only be getting worse, it’s easy to lose hope, and this has translated into a 17% spike in NJ overdoses since last July. To combat this trend, The NJ State Department of Human Services plans to distribute free doses of the overdose reversal agent naloxone, and New Jersey will be receiving $7.1 million in federal funds from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to reduce overdose deaths. Read more about these findings here: https://www.njspotlight.com/2020/09/nj-overdose-deaths-record-high-possible-covid-isolation-stresses/. Many treatment services that were available before COVID-19 are now available in altered forms, so it is so vital to remember there ARE options open to you and your loved ones! #TurningPointNJ #TurnYourLifeAround
Hearts across the nation fell heavy this past Friday with the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a feminist icon who broke past every glass ceiling placed in her way until she achieved what few women could have dreamed of. She drew fans from all ends of the spectrum for her tenacity and integrity and will continue to serve as an inspiration to women for generations to come. #RuthBaderGinsburg #NotoriousRBG #TurnYourLifeAround
Shana Tova” – Happy New Year! Traditions include the sounding of the shofar, an instrument made out of a ram’s horn. The blowing of the shofar is not just a tradition, but a mitzvah (a good deed). Eating symbolic foods include round challah bread, the circular shape symbolizes the cyclical nature of life. Raisins are often added to symbolize the hope for a sweet year, as is the practice of dipping the bread into honey. Well known treats include dipping apple slices in honey before the meal and Teiglach (honey dough balls) or Babka (cake) at dessert. #ShanaTova #HappyNewYear #TurningPointNJ
