Congratulations, UCLA Health emergency nurses! Nethercutt Emergency Center at UCLA Health – Santa Monica Medical Center earned the Emergency Nurses Association 2020 Lantern Award for exceptional and innovative performance in nursing leadership, practice, education, and patient advocacy. The hospital is one of only 25 nationwide to receive the award.
“Every patient receives compassionate and dedicated care from our nurses, all of whom care deeply about the lives of patients and the community we serve – something we are proud to be recognized for,” said Elizabeth George, nursing director of the emergency department at UCLA Medical Center – Santa Monica
The Lantern Award is named in honor of Florence Nightingale, who worked to improve and change nursing in the 19th century. Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center received their Lantern Award in 2018.
Receiving Magnet® designation is the highest accolade a hospital's nursing team can receive – only nine percent of hospitals nationwide meet the rigorous standards.
UCLA Health-Santa Monica Medical Center, already a Magnet hospital, recently welcomed the Magnet Appraisal Team as part of an every-four-year recertification process. The three-day visit gave our nurses the opportunity to demonstrate their exceptional skill and unwavering commitment to delivering high-quality care to patients – and to show their pride in being UCLA nurses.
We will be notified of the Commission on Magnet Recognition Program’s decision officially in early 2021 – and will be sure to share the news!
