The 11th Annual 2020 Whippany Ukrainian Festival turned out to be a huge success. Over 200 cars went through the Drive-Thru. Over 2000 people saw the concert on-line. People also came to watch the live performance. Local politicians came to extend their support to the Ukrainian community. First of all, we would like to thank all the volunteers who worked tirelessly to make the festival a success. Also, we would like to thank everyone that came to buy food, watch the concert, and made a donation to support the center.

According to on-site Radio Liberty journalist Nataliya Kudryk, Ukrainian Ombudsperson Liudmyla Denisova, and Ukrainian activist Oles Horodetekyy, the Court of Appeal in Milan has acquitted Ukrainian soldier Vitaliy Markiv who was accused of complicity in the killing of Italian photojournalist Andrea Rocchelli and Russian interpreter and human rights activist Andrei Mironov.

Good morning World! Good morning Ukraine!
Tonight is Svyat Vechir, or Holy Evening (Ukrainian Christmas Eve). A candle in the window welcomes those without families to join in the observation of this special time, and the Christmas Eve dinner is not served until the first star appears in the sky, signifying the arrival of the Three Kings. Families celebrate with holiday dishes made especially for the event which contain no meat, dairy, or animal fat, though fish, such as herring, may be served.
Twelve dishes symbolize the twelve Apostles, the twelve months of the year... One of the dishes is traditionally kutya, an ancient preparation made from wheat, poppy seeds and nuts, in which all members of the family partake. A place setting is laid to remember someone who has passed away. Hay is brought into the house to remind those gathered of the manger where Christ was born and believers attend church services at midnight or early the next morning.
