It's World Smile Day! 😃
An act of kindness goes so far. Make someone smile today by doing/saying something from the heart.
Congrats to DAISY Award recipient Liz Phelan, RN, who was recognized for care and compassion!
The family member who nominated Liz noted that his brother received "outstanding care" at our Medical Center, and expressed his desire to recognize Liz in particular. "During my brother’s final hours, Elizabeth arranged two FaceTime calls, the first with me (I reside in Florida) and the second with his wife, his daughter and only grandchild," he said. "Ms. Phelan’s efforts allowed me to see and speak with my brother just prior to his passing. Personally, I will never forget the opportunity that Elizabeth provided, allowing me to share a final few moments with him."
Boston 25 News spoke with UMass Memorial's Dr. Robert Fineberg who is part of one of the vaccine trials. He said, "The goal here is when we introduce this to the population at large, there won’t be serious side effects. Pausing the vaccine is common."

Did you know that automated external defibrillators (AEDs) must be applied to patients within three minutes to be most effective in saving lives? The American Heart Association estimates that about 1,700 lives are saved in the United States per year by bystanders using defibrillators (AEDs), but the AHA also acknowledges that not enough people know to look for AEDs in public locations.
To combat this, UMass Memorial Medical Center recently began a signage system for defibrillators to increase awareness and access to defibrillators and ultimately help save lives. As a start, signs are now located in key public areas, including rest rooms on the first floor on the University Campus, to help everyone know where to look for and find the nearest defibrillator!
