What a glorious morning we have on this beautiful Saturday. It has been a very busy and good week and we’re so excited about it being October!! Albeit one has to drive up north to see fall colors in Arizona, we can feel the change in the air. It’s cooler (thank goodness), the air is crisper in the mornings and evenings. It’s been a while since we’ve turned the camera on us. Lots of new followers and customers we’d like to introduce ourselves to.
Mother (Yolindi) and Carealee (Daughter) team. We started out of our home about 5 years ago with an idea 💡 and lots of gumption!!
Our business has morphed and grown into a clearer vision as time has progressed. From very humble beginnings. And lots of set backs we started UniikPillows.
Two years ago we leased our manufacturing studio. It was daunting and scary and exciting, all rolled up in one. We’ve kept our heads down, buckled down and worked hard. Very hard.
This year has been challenging, but sewing masks has enabled us to weather the storm and come out stronger. It allowed us to purchase our own commercial sublimation printer and large heat press.
When we first started we outsourced our printing. Now we do it all in-house!
From one home sewing machine and serger a year back, we now own 3 commercial Juki sewing machines and 1 Juki serger. Then we have an array of 3 speciality sergers for variety of sewing.
This week we added a second Dual large heat press to the family and have a few other pieces of equipment in mind.
On average we do about 100-120 plus pillow covers a week with hundreds of inserts.
We’ve grown to 10 local markets. One in Michigan, and our products are sold in boutiques across the country. We sell in a variety of products in our studio, Walmart and Amazon as well as on Faire.
Carealee has blossomed as an artist and does an incredible job with photography and design. I work on advertising, product allocations and acquisition, mentorship, planning of new product lines and help in all areas of the business.
We have 2 incredible full time seamstresses to make our team of 4. Part time we have an super talented copyrighter to do our newsletters and blogs and product updates and an advertising team.
Noting beats hard work. Any overnight success is years in the making!! We can’t do it without our incredible customers and team.

Winters past in Maine my kids had a blast building snowmen, tunnels and forts in the mountains of snow. Barreling down the hill in sleds and doing it for hours!! As an adult I just remember the mountains of jackets, boots. Mittens and hats to dry out. But the kids couldn’t wait for the first snowfall and hours of play that awaited.

One thing I will always remember, about when my children where young, is the endless pursuit of mittens in the winter. It’s about as bad as socks. Living in Maine we always needed mountains of mittens, scarves and hats.
Come spring, when all the snow would melt, we would meet up with lots of single mittens, socks and even boots buried beneath the snow. It was a glad reunion and became a game of sorts. Finding the missing mitten.
It surely was annoying at times back then with crying little ones with frozen fingers. But now I look back and smile fondly.
Remember that what you do today will be memories of tomorrow. Make them sweet so you can remember fondly.

Celebrating 18! When Carealee and I started 5 years ago working out of our garage, designing and making pillow cases we had a passion for pretty home decor and being crafty.
Slowly our vision grew and dreams got clearer. Carealee spent hundreds if not more hours learning software, design techniques and photography skills. We tried, failed, tried again, sewed, messed up, tried again and slowly refined our vision.
She was only 13 when we started, but was excited right from the start. I saw her art potential and knew we could build something amazing together.
Carealee has worked hard. Finished school a year ahead and really dedicated herself to our vision. I’m so excited for the New Year, full of very exciting plans and grateful I was given one of the best to work with.
Carealee is as beautiful inside and out. Kind. Generous. Fun loving. Adventurous. Extremely talented artist. Witty. Funny. Always up for a challenge. Loves to learn. Help. And one of the hardest working people I know.
