Monday, September 28th is a teacher work day. Students do not report to school.
However, we will still have our regular scheduled meal pickup in the car loop from 8:45 to 10:30. Email Mrs. Williams if you need assistance swilliams@indiantrailprep.org
Good evening Polar Bear parents.
We have been watching the weather and keeping an eye on hurricane Sally. At this time we WILL be holding in person classes as regularly scheduled tomorrow. If you are in an area that is prone to flooding you may choose to learn remotely tomorrow.
BOG testing for 3rd grade will occur as scheduled. Contact your child's teacher if you are supposed to take the BOG tomorrow, but will need to learn remotely for safety.
Meal pick up will still occur from 8:45 to 10:30

Day 35 post transplant, day 44 in the hospital, and today is the day!!! Kahlil gets to go home after a successful stem cell transplant and he is considered cured of sickle cell disease. His numbers are soaring today - WBC is 2.1, ANC is 1600, platelets are 68k, and hemoglobin is 11.6. On top of that, he is now fully chimera, which means 100% of his blood (WBC, RBC, and platelets) is being made by Kaavya's stem cells. This ratio will lower over time, but starting off at 100% is an important transplant success marker.
While we still have a looong road ahead of us, he is done with the hardest part of it. We are so so so proud of our baby boy! He will now have weekly outpatient visits, in-home nurse care as needed, and medications and lab tests for the next year or two. For now, we are beyond thrilled to have our baby back home! 💕
KAHLIL, not Khalil.

Who is ready for some Fall fun with books and literacy!?! UPA is known for our creative and fun themed learning events and we are excited to get back to it, safely of course.
A note from my inbox:
Dear Mrs. Simpson, I was totally amazed today as Ms. Parker sat in the rain to help feed our students who are at home. UPA is a Dedicated school! But to see this today, I was truly thankful for our staff who hardly get recognized! Please give her a Way to Go! She is a dedicated Polar Bear!
Those storms last night washed away Taylor's birthday paint. Happy birthday.
Are you a UPA Founding Family? Thank you for your loyalty and hard work. So proud of all we've done together. Happy to have all the families who have joined us on the way. Year #5 is different, but because of our solid school and family partnership we are making it happen!

Tonight!
Thank you PTC, Pink Turtle Cookies and Ms. Nichols for delivering some love to our staff today! What a wonderful surprise.
Over 500 treat bags all set for our drive through Trunk or Treat!
A Fall mystery at UPA! I received a strange text from Mrs. Sims yesterday morning asking me to bring her a shovel to work. I didn't think much of it. After the students left for the day I saw her walk out with the shovel only to return a little bit later looking tired and messy. Now, she's stuffing garbage in a pumpkin.
What on earth is she up to? Drop your guesses below.
Book Character dress up day can be hard for middle schoolers--they don't want to participate. But 7th grade got it right by having them all use the same book, The Outsiders. Students could pick whether they wanted to be a Soc (social) or Greeser from the book.
Parents and families, we are still in need of donations for our Trunk or Treat on Friday. You can drop off bags of nut free candy, pencils, bookmarks etc.. through the car loop at arrival and dismissal or at the front office. Be sure to write your child's name on the receipt!
Today we kicked off our Leading in Reading event with a Red Carpet Book Reveal! Don't our students, teachers and BOOKS look marvelous!?!
Our K-5 families came through with donations of snacks to help feed over 60 families during fall break. Thank you for giving to the community.
Exciting news! A proposed upper campus for UPA!

Open Enrollment at UPA is finally here! Starting November 15,2020, you can go to our website at indiantrailprep.org to fill out an application for the 2021-2022 School Lottery. You can also sign up for a tour! Good Luck! #wewillseeyousoon👨👩👧👦
Middle School students are working on a circuit lab in science this week. Not only is it a grade level standard, but it's also an event in Science Olympiad.
We are still accepting interested students into our Science Olympiad Team this year. We will be practicing and competing in this year's tournament (which will be virtual). We hope to bring home even more medals this year!
UPA has had students in-person since the first day of school in August. Being safe on campus and teaching both students at-home and in school takes a lot of work for our staff. This week is our first annual Love Ya Week. Comfy clothes, no meetings and a treat each day as a small token of our appreciation.
Special thank you to Miss Mull for making sure it is pulled off without a hitch! Today teachers get a rose and a bonus treat of Dunkin' donated by a family.
UPA is going deep for Black History Month. K-8 students are learning and sharing about the culture and contributions of past and present African Americans. Students wonder and dream about the future!
Please help us congratulate our spelling bee champs! They head to the district competition and the winner will compete at Panther Stadium! Way to go, polar bears! #spellingbee

Edit (this is last year at picture)
UPA middle school students had their end of semester art exhibit using Padlet this week. Ms. Masone's art class teaches technique and art history while allowing the student to select their own method of expression. It's all about the individual as an artist.
It's not too late to apply for a seat for next year. Just visit our website or email Mrs. Francis, our enrollment manager. mfrancis@indiantrailprep.org
