After a brief hiatus, we're back with another installment of Legends of Insurance! We're going back to space for this one....
After successfully becoming the first artificial satellite to be placed into Earth's orbit, Sputnik 1 created somewhat of a worldwide panic in October 1957. With Sputnik claiming uncharted territory at the time, many people became wary of the spacecraft and started to wonder what might happen if it came crashing to earth.
As it turns out, Lloyd's of London actually wrote a $22,000 insurance policy protecting against accidental death caused by a plumeting Sputnik 1. To be clear, that would be about $200,000 today.
Sputnik 1 completed 1,440 orbits before burning up while reentering Earth's atmostphere, which means (thankfully) a claim never had to be made.
While there's no longer a need for coverage against Falling Sputnik, we can help you with some more practical types of insurance.

🗨 Erie Auto Insurance expert Katie answered: "Often, people will forget to ask about extra coverages that are available. One such coverage is Transportation Expenses, which would provide you with a #rentalcar if yours is involved in an accident and being repaired/replaced. Another important coverage that is looked over is Gap coverage (with Erie, the coverage is called New Auto Security - Better Vehicle replacement coverage). You can purchase Erie’s New Auto Security Coverage which will cover your vehicle if there’s a total loss. Instead of being paid the value of the car at the time of loss, you would instead be paid for the same type of 🚗 vehicle up to two model years newer with up to 30,000 fewer miles.
"Something else to consider when buying car insurance is the type of customer service and claims service you will receive if you need to use it. Do your research and ask trusted friends/family. The cheapest insurance might not always be the best because you could be missing out on valuable coverage or dependable customer service."

It's been a bit since our last installment of Legends of Insurance. This one is TASTY.
Food critic Egon Ronay was born in Budapest, Hungary around 1916. His grandfather was a hotel owner while his father owned and operated several restaurants.
Later in 1952, he got his first taste of owning his own restaurant when he purchased a small tea room in London.
Because Ronay believed that much of the food in London wasn't at a high enough standard, he published his first restaurant guide in 1957.
Ronay went on to publish an entire series of Irish and British restaurant guides. And because tasting food was his livelihood, he had his taste buds insured to the tune of $393,000!
