This case probably required the most creativity so far to recreate phacoemulsification for cataract removal - a super cool device that breaks up the cloudy lens and sucks it out, followed by placement of an artificial lens.

His favorite part? Instilling the lidocaine eye drops 😅 - he is an innately very empathetic kid and is always taking care to ensure the patient is not in pain.

Do your eyes feel gritty, burning, and dry? Or are they watering a lot? These are all signs of dry eye syndrome. There are lots of options out there- from drops, bedtime ointments, heat therapy, fish oil, lid scrubs, and even prescription medications. Be sure to discuss your issues with Dr. Bauder to start your customized treatment plan.
As cases in Ohio and Franklin County continue to rise rapidly, we will continue our current protocol at least throughout the remainder of the year. We are doing our part to keep our patients, staff and community healthy.
-Properly fitting Masks (over the mouth and nose) must be worn at all times by anyone entering our building.
-Patients are asked to call when they arrive and will be given the “ok” to come in. This allows us to make sure the prior patient is already out of the office or in a separate area to avoid any overlap.
-If you have been in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 within 2 weeks of your appointment, you must reschedule.
-If you have any symptoms suspicious of COVID-19, you will also need to reschedule.
-To limit the amount of people in the office for everyone’s safety, we are asking for no visitors in the office. Exceptions include one adult with a minor or with a patient who needs assistance.
-We will continue to thoroughly sanitize all touched surfaces, equipment, chairs, doorknobs, etc between patients. Frames will be sanitized after being tried on. Air purifiers are in all rooms to cleanse the air.

2020 has been a challenging year for everyone to say the least. It has been heartbreaking to hear our patients stories of sickness and death of loved ones, job loss, and financial hardship. It was definitely hard as a small business to be closed for 2 months. But, I choose to be thankful. I could not be more grateful for our amazing patients who have trusted us with their eye care even in the midst of a crazy pandemic, who have been keeping our schedule full since day 1 of reopening, who have patient with us and been willing to wait up to 2 months for an appointment, who continue to refer their friends and family to us, who are happily abiding by our new COVID protocols, and continue to choose to shop small and local in a word that is so much focused online and on convenience . Thank YOU to everyone who has made Uptown Eye Care their optometry home. We are so so thankful for each and every one of you and we cannot wait for COVID to be over to see your smiles again under the masks, shake your hands and give high fives and hugs! Today we remember the tragedy that hit Westerville 3 years ago.
Uptown Eye Care will be closed today (Tuesday February 16) due to the icy conditions and the level 2 snow emergency in Franklin County. We apologize for any inconvenience but want to keep our staff and patients safe.
UPDATE: we have decided to remain closed all day.
At this time, we are planning on opening late tomorrow (Tuesday) at 12:30 pm to allow time for road conditions to improve for the safety of our staff and patients. Be safe out there, friends!
