We hope you all had a great time picking those amazing raspberries and blueberries this fall. Cranberries are in season now! With so many uses for cranberries, the one that might come to mind is the use for prevention of UTI’s.
Urinary Tract Infections are the second most common type of bacterial infection. Women are 10xs more likely than men to get a UTI because of the anatomy of the women’s urethra. It is shorter therefore easier for bacteria to travel up to the bladder. However men do suffer from UTI’s usually as they age but not at the same rate as women.
Causes for UTI’s:
Dehydration-drinking enough water can make the difference of flushing out the bacteria that can cause a UTI.
Holding it-if you hold your urine for up to 6 hours you can be putting yourself at risk by allowing the bacteria to over grow in the bladder.
Constipation or diarrhea-it’s often difficult to empty your bladder when you are constipated, which means bacteria has time to grow in the bladder. Also, bacteria from loose stool that’s easily excreted can easily make its way to the bladder
Sex-can put women at risk for a UTI since during intercourse the urethra comes in contact with bacteria from the genital area.
Kidney Stones-because they block your urinary tract and hold urine in, this allows bacteria to grow in the bladder.
Diabetes-for some with uncontrolled diabetes, the bladder won’t empty as well and can become a breeding ground for bacteria. High blood glucose levels can increase the odds in UTI’s.
Hygiene products-because bacteria grow better in moist environments it is important that you change your pad or tampon frequently when you’re on your period.
Birth control-hormone shifts from switching your birthday control can lead to fluctuation of the normal bacteria in the vagina and can increase the likelihood of for a UTI.
Medical attention for UTI’s is important to the speedy recovery and can help with the uncomfortableness associated with it.
At Urgent Care of Soldotna we can properly diagnose your UTI, and get you on your way to recovery saving you time and money! We accept all local major insurances, HSA cards and cash payment options.
Illness and accidents never come at at convenient time so we are committed to being open 7 days a week and most holidays!

It’s that time of year again! Trying to figure out when this rain will turn to snow. With the first snow fall always come those fender benders from those who maybe forgot to slow down given the road conditions.
Fender benders and serious crash can all be very scary. Adrenaline and shock take over and our sensible reasoning can be clouded. Even if your not in immediate pain you should always seek medical attention after an car accident.
When to seek an Urgent Care or the ER:
For minor injuries such a sprains, minor breaks, superficial wounds, and minor burns you can walk into your Urgent Care of Soldotna and get immediate care.
For serious or life-threatening injuries you should seek your local ER. This includes severe burns, uncontrollable bleeding, major broken bones and breathing difficulties.
Waiting time in the ER vs. Urgent Care: the majority of wait times at your Urgent Care is less than 10 minutes. ER’s have high traffic and wait times can be longer for you if someone comes in that has an emergency that is worse than yours.
Cost difference ER vs. Urgent Care: In general your Urgent Care is less expensive than an ER visit. Saving you money upfront even if you are waiting on any personal injury claim.
Urgent Care of Soldotna is open 7 days a week making sure that no matter the day, when you have an accident, we can see you right away!
