Dr. Valerie Wong is a primary care geriatrician and geriatric extensivist physician who practices in Westwood and Santa Monica. She aims to provide personalized medicine to the elderly and specializes in the diagnosis and management of geriatric syndromes, including cognitive disorders, polypharmacy, falls, incontinence, and transitions of care.
The extensivist program seeks to help patients with complex medical conditions better manage their care and minimize unnecessary hospitalizations. Dr. Wong is currently working to expand the services provided to include home visits and nursing home care so that extensivist patients can have a doctor familiar with their care in all settings.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Wong is a core faculty member for the UCLA Geriatric Fellowship Program and is serving as the Hospitalist Track Director. She is a clinical instructor at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.
Dr. Wong received her medical degree from Stony Brook School of Medicine in New York, where she was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. She then completed her internal medicine residency at UC Davis, where she completed additional training in quality improvement, medical education and primary care. She finished her training by coming to UCLA for her geriatric medicine fellowship. She earlier earned her bachelor’s degree from Brown University with a concentration in Neuroscience.
Dr. Wong was born and raised in the Bay Area. When she’s not working, she enjoys biking along the beach, tennis, hiking and baking.
