Tumors in the foot and ankle are common. Tumors can occur in any structure: bone, muscle, tendon, ligament, nerve, and blood vessel. These tumors vary widely in appearance and behavior. Some tumors can be quite aggressive. We usually need MRI, X-rays, ultra-sound, CT scan, or a biopsy to diagnosis the tumor.

In general, a hammer toe is a flexion (bending) contracture of one or both joints of the second through fifth toes. It is a deformity of the proximal interphalangeal joint (PIPJ) of the toe causing it to be permanently bent and resemble a hammer. The contracture of the toes can be flexible (reducible) at first and can get rigid (non-reducible) as the deformity progresses.
If there is flexion deformity of the distal phalangeal joint(DIPJ) of the toe only, then it is called a Mallet toe (resembling a mallet).

Arthroscopic surgery and endoscopic surgery are referred to as Minimal Invasive Surgery (M.I.S.). Arthroscopic surgery is when a small scope is inserted into a joint, this can be done for most of foot and ankle joints. Endoscopic surgery is when a scope is used for soft tissue surgery. A endoscopic plantar fasciotomy is when the plantar is release under endoscopic visualization. M.I.S. procedures allow patients to recover at a faster rate then the traditional open procedure, since the incisions are much smaller. A smaller incision will decrease risk of nerve damage, risk of blood vessels damage and less surgical dissection which will decrease scar tissue after surgery. Short toe is usually due to
Brachymetatarsal which is a condition in which one of the bones in the foot is significantly shorter than the others. It most commonly it affects the fourth metatarsal and the fourth toe. The toe appears shorter then the adjacent toes, where in reality is the fourth metatarsal bone that is shorter.
This condition occurs when the affected metatarsal bone fails to develop fully. This is a congenital deformity. This deformity is painful and cosmetically not pleasing.
Surgical treatment may be required. The metatarsal bone can be lengthened minimal invasively or with an external fixation device or internally with a bone graft. #losangeles #tarzana #tarzanacalifornia
