We are honored to announce our Q4 2020 Raise the Roof recipient. The Anne Arundel County Police Department was kind enough to join us yesterday. As part of Valor Roofing’s Raise the Roof program, US Army Veteran, SGT George Welch will receive a free roof on his home in Edgewater, MA. SGT Welch is 73 years old and was an Army Military Policeman(31B), as well as a Gunner on a Helicopter Gunship. His platoon was involved in the Battle of Saigon in which they were trapped in an alleyway. Unfortunately, a few of his platoon members did not survive.

Over the years Valor has learned a few things. We had to learn how to be nimble in our business model. We embraced our customer experience and standards at all costs. We uncovered that the 'customer relationship' is the most critical part of any business. These lessons came at a price of time, money, and hard work. All businesses experience these things and it is to be expected.
What we were unable to prepare for was the impact that our military would have on our company. It started with a concept: that Veterans deserved opportunity and have earned recognition for their valiant dedication to the United States of America.
Slowly, we began to work on that ethos and hired Veterans who were in need of a place to call their own. Where they felt like stakeholders and family. Today, we employ five Veterans and are always expanding in an effort to bring more home. The Valor Family believes that this is more important than ever, as Veterans transition into an unfamiliar workplace.
We Raise the Roof for our Brothers and Sisters-in-arms. Every Quarter we honor a Veteran with a brand new roof. We have impacted 13 Veterans over the last four years, contributing $140,000 to this initiative. Why? Because Al Kincaid (Owner), believes that companies need to do more. If he can inspire just one company to give back, he would consider it a monumental success for our legacy.
Yes, we have learned so much over the years. We have seen patrons cry, flipped through the pages of history, held memorabilia from days long past, and most importantly... we were forever changed by each story that entered our orbit.
Today, we stand proud of our Veterans who are carrying the cause away from the Homefront. We salute our Veterans who are transitioning into a new life back home. We honor those no longer present. Today I had the privilege of recognizing Valor Roofing, a local, veteran-owned business, as they celebrated the donation of a new roof to Vietnam veteran George Welch through their Raise the Roof for a Veteran program.
Since 2017, the team at Valor Roofing has donated their time and materials to replace the roofs of 10 heroes in need. I thanked them for their service, both to our nation and to Maryland’s veterans, and presented them with an official governor’s citation.

At Valor we strive to enrich peoples lives. Being a construction company, we meet so many great people, and this story is no exception.
Tammy Hines is a small diner owner in Round Hill, Virginia. Tammy is just like the millions of small business owners surviving during the pandemic. Every day is a struggle and a testament to her fighting American spirit.
Tammy has kept her head up throughout it all, providing service to her community, and completing the work of 10 staff members everyday. During this time she has taken custody of her Grandson (full-time), her husband has taken ill, and if that wasn’t enough, the impact from COVID was strangling her ability to remain open.
One of our executives ate at the diner a few weeks back with his family. After a brief conversation, they left Tammy a $50 tip. When they presented her with the tip, they also asked to begin a fundraiser for Tammy’s Diner. Now, this initiative wasn’t designed to grow like it did, and our employee had never started a fundraiser before. The expectation was low and they were resigned to the fact that they would – more then likely – be the only donors. They had no earthly idea how wrong they were.
The donations came pouring in and $12,000 was raised for Tammy Hines and her Magical Diner! 172 people, along with Valor, made a contribution towards the humble diner within the Round Hill Community.
Today, we celebrated with Tammy and shared a wooden flag, a Valor coin, and a sizable check from the amazing Round Hill Community. We want to inspire others to give as often as they can, because in the end, if we all gave just a little more… imagine what a world it could be.

Although Christmas is a few days away, we wanted to make sure we wished everyone the very best during the Holiday season. We know everyone celebrates in different ways, and we want to recognize all of our patrons, associates, and friends.
There is a wonderful movie that a few of us watch every year. There is a heartfelt passage from the movie that inspires us 70 years later from when it was written. The movie is called, "The Bishop's Wife" and we think it is apropos towards the close of 2020. As we look forward to 2021, we wish all of you the very best.
