馃尡馃尳馃殰Happy Harvest Hoosiers!馃殰馃尳馃尡
Fall is here and so is harvest in Indiana! We want to encourage all motorists to be alert, patient and courteous around farm equipment. These slow-moving vehicles often travel at speeds no greater than 25 mph, and large farm equipment can sometimes take up most of the road. Combines and tractors also make slow and wide left turns.
鈥硷笍Follow these tips this fall:鈥硷笍
鉃★笍Be alert and careful on the road
鉃★笍Give large farm equipment plenty of space
鉃★笍Be careful when passing equipment
鉃★笍Allow extra time to get to your destination
鉃★笍Be aware of alternate routes

[5:20 a.m., Mon Sept 14]: Patches of shallow, dense fog will continue in northern Illinois and northwest Indiana through 8-9 a.m. this morning. Much of the fog is only about 10 ft within the ground but that's of course in the level we drive in. So allow extra time and slow down if encountering fog.

[5:25 a.m., Fri Oct 16]: The weather melody of the week is Windy and it's on repeat. This continues today and especially Saturday. Combined with dryness this also results in an increasing fire weather risk, so please use extreme caution with open flames.
While spotty showers will be seen north of I-80 today and possibly Saturday morning, the next main chance of rain for much of the area comes Sunday.

The unseasonably warm weather (highs in the 70s!) will continue through Tuesday when a cold front passage will finally bring the warmth to an end. Showers and possibly a few thunderstorms will accompany the cold front when it sweeps across the area Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday evening. Daily record warmth will be threatened during this stretch, especially Sunday through Tuesday.

Today is National Stress Awareness Day. How do you cut down on stress or remove it from your life? Exercise, yoga, pizza, hitting your younger sibling... These are all productive ways to reduce or eliminate daily stressors.
Did you vote? We're all wearing our "I voted" sticker today. I think the sticker is a fashion trend like the slap wrap bracelets of the late '80's or tight rolling your jeans in the early 90's. We just hope this fashion trend has more staying power. Wear it proudly if you voted!

Another period of accumulating snow is expected tonight. Snow will develop from southwest to northeast over much of the area this evening, then end around daybreak Sunday. The highest amounts are likely south of I-80, where some isolated amounts as high as 3 inches are possible. Lighter amounts under an inch are expected north, with little to no snow over northwest parts of Illinois.
Happy New Year! Let's all make 2021 great!

Uncertainty is high regarding the snow/rain mix. However, we can be fairly certain that this will be a great day to watch college football and eat all day. There is also high certainty of an afternoon nap.

Another round of winter weather is expected for New Year's Day. Snow will switch to a mix, primarily of freezing rain, from south to north Friday morning. The freezing rain may persist through much of the afternoon. There is still high uncertainty on how long snow and then freezing rain will each persist. Check back for the latest forecast updates and be prepared for potential travel impacts.

Snow is expected to develop over the area Tuesday afternoon and continues into the evening before gradually changing to a wintry mix, including freezing rain, from south to north during the late evening and overnight hours. The potential combination of ice and snow accumulations may create hazardous travel across the area. Some power outages may also be possible from the combined effects of heavy wet snow, some icing, and gusty winds. Warmer air is expected to move into the area on Wednesday so the threat of icing should diminish during the day for most of the area.
