Not having a place to call home is a terrifying experience. Due to the economic recession and recent wildfires, housing instability is a growing problem here in Oregon. Last week, we supported the United Way’s Wildfire Response and Recovery Fund. This week, we’re also supporting Homeplate Youth Service.

As you know, the fires have displaced thousands of people throughout Oregon. Many families have been evacuated to the Oregon State Fair and Exposition Center and need supplies. If you are able to give, please consider donating the following items: masks, toothbrushes, toothpaste, baby wipes, menstrual products, new pillows, new blankets, or sleeping bags. MEMBER SPOTLIGHT! This month we are recognizing one of our outstanding paralegals - Veronica Amato! She joined the Vames & Wang team back in January 2020. Since then, she has been a ray of sunshine in the office.
Outside of work, Veronica loves spending time with her two sons, Frankie and Ronnie. They enjoy pizza and movie nights, board games, and spending time outdoors. Her hobbies include gardening and trying to make it through every one of the Beach Body home fitness workouts. Lately, Veronica has been working on several home renovation projects with her boyfriend, Marco, and her favorite one thus far has been installing new flooring.
A fun fact about Veronica is that she graced the cover of Salmon Trout Steelheader magazine THREE TIMES!

Member Spotlight: This week we are shining a spotlight on Pete Dethlefs! Pete is from Gibbsboro, New Jersey, and was the first person hired at our firm. Pete has worked alongside Emery for over 10 years.
Prior to working for Vames & Wang, Pete worked as an auto claims insurance adjuster and manager for over 30 years. He is very knowledgeable in all things insurance. When asked what his favorite part of working here is, he responded “I’m able to help people more than I could on the insurance side.”
Pete is an avid golfer, who isn’t going to let a little rain get in the way of swinging his club. He golfs year-round! In addition to golfing, Pete also enjoys traveling to see friends.
Pete is a fan of watching all major sports, but he favors Philadelphia professional and college sports.

In addition to the other tragedies we have faced over the past several months, Portland is on track to have one of the deadliest traffic fatality years on record. In 2020 thus far, 12 motorists have died in freeway crashes along with 11 pedestrians and 3 cyclists. These deaths were due in part to drivers who were impaired and/or traveling at excessive speed. Please be mindful when you are on the road and especially cautious in the presence of pedestrians and cyclists.

Member Spotlight! This month we are featuring attorney Mona Moghimian. Mona earned her bachelor of science degree in a year and half from Portland State University. As an undergraduate, she studied abroad in Spain, as well as Central and South America.
Mona attended law school at Gonzaga University School of Law in Washington state. She is a licensed attorney in Washington as well as Oregon, and she has practiced law in both states. She continues to represent injured individuals for both Oregon and Washington personal injury and insurance bad faith claims.
When she’s not practicing law, Mona likes to travel internationally. She also enjoys building websites and watching live stand-up comedy.
