This is Eclipse. Every day she leaves her house, by herself, and takes the bus downtown to the dog park where she spends a couple of hours getting exercise and making friends, and then she takes the bus back home again. She even has her own bus pass attached to the collar.
It started when her owner, Jeff Young, was taking too long when the bus arrived, so she impatiently ran ahead and got on the bus by herself. The bus driver recognized her and dropped her off at the dog park, and later Jeff caught up with her. After several more trips by herself, Jeff started letting her go on her own, and she always comes back home a couple of hours later.
All of the bus drivers know her and she makes them smile, and many of the regular passengers enjoy seeing her every day and will often sit down next to her. Even the police have given their approval as long as the bus drivers are okay with the arrangement. "She makes everybody happy."

From August through November 2020, local animal control agencies reported an increasing amount of wildlife suspected of having distemper. During that period, these agencies reported 15 raccoons, 1 coyote, and 1 fox with signs compatible with distemper to Veterinary Public Health (VPH). They also reported 10 raccoons that were found dead.
One raccoon and the fox have been necropsied and confirmed to have distemper. Both were also tested for rabies and found to be negative.
Raccoons may also harbor a potentially deadly strain of roundworms! Don't let them establish a "latrine" in your yard as they are wont to do. These Ascarid eggs can stay in the environment for years.
These guys may be cute, but are dangerous to your dogs and cats.. Do not leave pet food out doors to attract them.

Sadly, many people get scammed during the holidays, puppy and kitten purchases are not immune to the perpetrators of these scams. Also, do not get sucked into what is essentially a lease of a puppy- we've had clients paying up to 66%/year interest to buy a puppy. Even though this is in LA County, it is only because the OC does not report these cases. It would be safe to assume we have the same situation in Orange County, so it would be prudent to follow the recommendations at the end of the article. You can check the status of your pets via the myVCA app.
