Meet Zoey 🐾 We first met Zoey one year ago. She was paralyzed in her rear limbs and saw our neurologist, Dr. Kopf. She has a condition where her immune system attacks her spinal cord. Fortunately, we were able to successfully treat Zoey and she is back to normal! She comes in for treatments every few weeks and we love seeing her. She always has a smile and a tail wag for us and she is very soft. Congratulations on your 1 year of remission, Zoey!
We know you’re so excited to go on some autumn nature walks with your dog, but for this #FallSafetyTip, make sure you watch out for snakes, some of which can be venomous! They’re preparing for hibernation and may be a little crankier if disturbed by a curious pet! 🐍 When walking or hiking, if something happens to your pet, be sure to contact your veterinarian as soon as possible. #VCApets
For Veterinary Technician Week, we wanted to continue to celebrate our fantastic technicians! 🎉 Each one of you are essential to our hospital, our patients and our clients. We would not be the same without your compassion, skill and care. We love you! ❤
Today is Global Cat Day, a special occasion devoted to unowned, free-roaming “community” cats. These cats often get a bad rap but it’s important to understand that these cats aren’t so different from our beloved pets. As a matter of fact, many are living on the streets as a result of being abandoned by their families. We've included some tips to help manage and care for the community cats in your neighborhood. Helping these cats starts by being a responsible guardian! Spay/neuter your own cat and keep them indoors. * In just seven years, a single pair of cats and their offspring could produce a staggering total of 420,000 kittens! #VCApets

Who is excited to hear an interesting case? 👏🏻 Meet this 6 year old Iguana named Sweet Pea! Sweet Pea came into our hospital to see Dr. Fitzgerald because she hadn’t eaten for a week and was unable to pass urine/feces. Dr. Fitzgerald ran blood work and did a physical exam of her, due to the bloating of her abdomen. The blood work came back normal, so they continued with X-rays. During this time, it was revealed that there was a large, single bladder stone and multiple eggs that had made her egg bound. Sweet Pea was taken to surgery and had the large stone, weighing 1.5 lbs removed. She also was spayed and had 59 eggs removed (pictured below). Before the surgery, Sweet Pea weighed 6 lbs and after the surgery she weighed 4 lbs. Sweet Pea stayed with us overnight and was sent home the following day after surgery and is doing great! We are so happy Dr. Fitzgerald could help her and remind us that even exotic animals still get sick 🦎
