It’s National Indoor Plant Week! 🌿 Make sure to avoid houseplants that are poisonous for pets, like aloe. Aloe, although having great medicinal benefits for humans, can be harmful for pets! If eaten, your pet can experience vomiting, diarrhea and lethargy. 🌿 ❌ Looking for pet-safe plants? Visit the ASPCA’s guide: bit.ly/32iHASu. If your pet has ingested a toxic plant, call your veterinarian or Animal Poison Control (888-426-4435) right away. #vcapets
According to a recent Mars study, over 40% of cats and dogs worldwide are obese, but few receive care – because their owners don’t believe they’re overweight. Meet Tiger, who sought comfort in overeating after losing her longtime owner. As her appetite consumed her, she lost interest in everything else. Learn how her new owner, and the caring team at VCA Metro Cat Hospital, helped Tiger overcome her weight gain to live well again. #vcavoice STORY http://bit.ly/vcatiger
We're so grateful for our national network of animal shelter partners. Together, we are building a better world for pets! For two years, we've proudly partnered with Homeward Trails Animal Rescue, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that provides pet adoption in Virginia, Washington, DC and Maryland. Homeward Trails finds homes for dogs and cats rescued from under-resourced shelters or whose owners can no longer care for them. Since 2001, they have saved more than 30,000 lives. For years, Homeward Trails has been rescuing cats and dogs from Puerto Rico, where overpopulation is a huge issue. They are provided foster and adoptive homes, medical treatment, and behavior training. Homeward Trails also takes in hundreds of special needs animals as well - those with treatable injuries and illnesses that most often are left behind in shelters. The Homeward team takes them in, gets them the best medical care around, and gives them a chance at the life they deserve! #vcacares
