We're so grateful for our national network of animal shelter partners. Together, we are building a better world for pets! For two years, we've proudly partnered with Homeward Trails Animal Rescue, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that provides pet adoption in Virginia, Washington, DC and Maryland. Homeward Trails finds homes for dogs and cats rescued from under-resourced shelters or whose owners can no longer care for them. Since 2001, they have saved more than 30,000 lives. For years, Homeward Trails has been rescuing cats and dogs from Puerto Rico, where overpopulation is a huge issue. They are provided foster and adoptive homes, medical treatment, and behavior training. Homeward Trails also takes in hundreds of special needs animals as well - those with treatable injuries and illnesses that most often are left behind in shelters. The Homeward team takes them in, gets them the best medical care around, and gives them a chance at the life they deserve! #vcacares

We are now extending our hours. We will be open Monday through Friday from 8 am to 8 pm. Urgent Care will close at 6 pm. On Saturday, we will be open from 8 am to 6 pm. Urgent Care will close at 4 pm. We will continue to remain closed on Sundays at this time. We are continuing our "curbside" service. Please call from the parking lot when you arrive and a staff member will assist you. And as always, we appreciate your patience and understanding through all of these changes.

To ensure everyone's health and safety, our associates will always be wearing a face mask throughout our curbside interactions. We want to thank you all for your understanding, patience and support during this time. Thank you for trusting us with the care of your pets! Sincerely, The Health Care Team at VCA Alexandria Animal Hospital

We know you’re so excited to go on some autumn nature walks with your dog, but for this #FallSafetyTip, make sure you watch out for snakes, some of which can be venomous! They’re preparing for hibernation and may be a little crankier if disturbed by a curious pet! 🐍 When walking or hiking, if something happens to your pet, be sure to contact your veterinarian as soon as possible. #VCApets
Today is Global Cat Day, a special occasion devoted to unowned, free-roaming “community” cats. These cats often get a bad rap but it’s important to understand that these cats aren’t so different from our beloved pets. As a matter of fact, many are living on the streets as a result of being abandoned by their families. We've included some tips to help manage and care for the community cats in your neighborhood. Helping these cats starts by being a responsible guardian! Spay/neuter your own cat and keep them indoors. * In just seven years, a single pair of cats and their offspring could produce a staggering total of 420,000 kittens! #VCApets

World, meet Chico — a K9 officer with Florida's Orange County sheriff's office. While on the job, Chico usually goes au naturel. But when the opportunity strikes, he sure cleans up real nice. "Chico is a German shepherd. He's 5 and a half. He's been with the OCSO for about 4.5 years. He is a patrol dog and also a drug K9. He lives with his handler and his family," a spokesperson for the sheriff's office told The Dodo, adding: "He loves tug-o-war and Kongs." ~ courtesy of Ths Dodo
