Today doesn’t just mark the first day of August, it’s also the start of Dogust, the Universal Birthday for Shelter Dogs! This wholesome holiday marks an honorary birthday for adopted shelter dogs, as their exact ones are often unknown.

We mourn today as part of the veterinary community in solidarity with @UrbanAnimalNW who lost Summer Taylor, one of their own. Summer lost their life while peacefully protesting in the early hours of July 4th. They were one of our community. Summer was described as "a positive force of nature". We feel their loss and extend our deepest sympathies to the veterinary family at Urban Animal. As a veterinary community, we are all deeply saddened by this senseless and tragic loss of life.
VCA is thrilled to be supporting the ASPCA in their National Adoption Weekend from June 5-7! The pandemic has created a significant increase in the need for adoptions across the country. Please consider opening your home to a cat or dog. All adopted pets from this event will receive their first free exam and a $250 health guarantee at a VCA Animal Hospital.
