Caturday! You already knew this but just to make it official...Cats win the popularity contest. There are 88 million pet cats in the USA, compared with 74 million dogs.
Fun Fact Friday and it's Black Cat Awareness Month! 1. Although a black cat crossing your path supposedly signifies bad luck, in some countries it’s the opposite. 2. They typically have yellow eyes due to Melanism. 3. In North America, black cats are most commonly associated with witches. 4. Black cats fur can turn white with age. 5. They supposedly have a better immune system than most other cats. 6. Black cats are often in danger around Halloween. (that's why many shelters and rescues halt their adoption during the month of October)
True or False? “Making older dogs wait too long between potty breaks can cause urinary tract infections.” True. Older dogs, especially females, are at high risk of UTIs. Dr. Sharon Marx of VCA Animal Healing Center explains UTI warning signs, treatment options and preventative care in today’s Daily Paws. #vcapets If your pet is showing signs of a UTI, call 480.984.2114 to schedule your appointment. https://www.dailypaws.com/dogs-puppies/health-care/dog-conditions/dog-uti DAILYPAWS.COM Could Your Dog Have a UTI? Here’s What to Do
Even though it's October we still live in the desert and our weather can fluctuate from one day to the next. Please make sure to be careful when taking your pet on a walk on hot surfaces. Here’s a tip: If you cannot hold the back of your hand on the surface for 5 seconds, it’s too hot for your pet. If you pet shows any signs of heat related issues, please call your Veterinarian immediately.
Michele and Jess love what they do! Our Technicians and Assistants are the Nurses of the Veterinary world. It takes empathy, dedication and a heart of gold to do what they do. This little panther is about to have his annual Dental Cleaning. Have you thanked your Vet Tech or Assistant lately? No? Give them a shout out here!
Did you know that October is also National Service Dog Awareness Month? A Service Dog is trained to perform a specific task or set of tasks for the owner. While Emotional Support Animals or Comfort Animals are often used as part of a medical treatment plan as therapy animals, they are not considered service animals under the ADA. These support animals provide companionship, relieve loneliness, and sometimes help with depression, anxiety, and certain phobias, but do not have special training to perform tasks that assist people with disabilities. Even though some states have laws defining therapy animals, these animals are not limited to working with people with disabilities and therefore are not covered by federal laws protecting the use of service animals. Therapy animals provide people with therapeutic contact, usually in a clinical setting, to improve their physical, social, emotional, and/or cognitive functioning. Join us in celebrating these amazing animals and the duties they perform for those who need them!
Sunday Fun Day! Home Made Cat Treats! How to Make Salmon Cat Treats: 1) Pulse canned salmon in a food processor and chop finely 2) Combine salmon, egg, & flour in stand up mixer until it forms a dough. Only use as much flour as you need. 3) Roll out dough to 1/4 inch thickness on a floured surface 4) Use a cookie cutter or a knife to cut into 3/4" pieces 5) Put the treats on a baking sheet & bake at 350°F for 20 minutes If you store these cat treats properly in an airtight container, they will keep for a couple of weeks. PLEASE NOTE: Use white or whole wheat flour. While some cats are able to stomach wheat gluten just fine, others can have an allergic reaction.

It can be easy to forget about heartworm prevention in January when frostbite is more likely than a mosquito bite, but there is still a risk! If you stop giving your cat heartworm medication in the fall, a parasite may remain and cause infection. The risk is even greater for cats because there's no treatment, only prevention. Visit bit.ly/3nic0wc to learn more about heartworm protection options for your cat.
HAPPY GROUNDHOG DAY! Let's hope Punxsutawney Phil brings us some good news! We all could use some right about now.
