Warning! Graphic Photos: Canelo and Missy here had an unfortunate run in with a rattlesnake and both presented to us with bites to their faces, severe swelling, and other side effects of the snake’s venom. They were treated with antivenin right away and hospitalized with supportive care for several days with our emergency team. They both still have some healing to do but they left us looking and feeling much better! Archibald, who we affectionately refer to as Archie, was relinquished to a rescue group after he was hit by a car. He suffered multiple fractures to his legs and pelvis and was brought in right away to see our surgeon Dr. Balfour. This little gal, Princesa, presented to our ER with her owners describing that she was swollen everywhere. We quickly realized that this was not the typical swelling that we often see.
X-rays showed that air was filling all the available space in her body, causing her to be extremely uncomfortable and her skin stretched almost as tight as it could be.
Her owners we ready to do everything to save her, so our internal med team did an emergency scope but no obvious causes were found. It was determined that Princesa must have a very well hidden tracheal tear from some type of unknown trauma.
She stayed with us with our emergency and critical care team for a few days as we gave her supportive care in hopes that the tear would begin to heal on its own, as we released any air as it built up.
She began to improve and thankfully we were able to send this little cutie home yesterday!!

Casper transferred to ASEC after being confirmed positive for parvovirus. Now he is hospitalized with us undergoing supportive care while his body works to fight the virus. We have to keep him in isolation away from other patients but with continuous care from his dedicated technician there is no short supply of attention for this little guy.
Thankfully, he is responding well to his therapy but treating parvovirus often takes time, patience and persistence to get our patients back to 100%. Our ER team is here for it and we will fight on for Casper! 💙🩺🐶

Lady Whistledown is back for her recheck today with our surgeon, Dr. Balfour. She was rescued after being dropped at a shelter with severe rectal/vaginal prolapse. We did a spay and colopexy to correct as much as possible and she has continued conservative treatment at home to help the tissue heal and decrease in size.
