Fall is a season where mice and rodents like to make their way into your home. So for this #FallSafetyTip, we ask that if you’re using rodenticides, keep them away from pets because they’re toxic! #VCApets

We will be closed on Monday September 7th for Labor Day. Please visit VCA Highlands Ranch Animal Specialty & Emergency Hospital if you have any urgent needs. We hope you have a wonderful holiday weekend, and we will return with normal hours on Tuesday September 8th.
Do you have a kitty at home? Did you happen to get your Halloween costumes shipped in a cardboard box? If you answered yet to both of these questions, than we have an idea for you. Why don't we try today to make a jungle gym for our precious kitties out of their most favorite materials? Big, small, open or closed boxes, they will adore it. The best part of this activity is it can become a family affair! Get the kids in on it and just have a blast ensuring your cat is going to have a hayday. If you do attempt this task, PLEASE send us pictures or videos. The staff here would appreciate it greatly!
Here at VCA Dakota Ridge a few of us have some exotic friends and we feel they don't always get enough credit. So we are making our own exotic pets day. There are small animals, reptiles, amphibians, and more! We feel they are often left out so we are asking to see all of your exotic pets! PSA if you do not already have one but would like to get one please make sure you do EXTENSIVE research on which species is best for you and your family, and please keep out for specific requirements of the species as many exotics are extremely picky about their living sitatuions. Also please be sure to check with your local ordinances to see what regulations they may have on pets. Lets see those exotics!🐸
It's still Adopt a Shelter Pet Month and boy do we have more information for you! Many shelters have perks to adoptions such as an included microchip, spay/neuter, vet check, and whatever vaccinations the pets currently need. If that wasn't enough in most cases they are able to take pups that need our help from all over the country! If you are more interested in a specific breed or age there are specific rescue groups that can aid you in that search! All you have to do is google it! Save a life today, Adopt a pet!
Microchipping; What is it and why is it important? A microchip is a small device that is the size of a grain of rice and is inserted into the skin between your pet's shoulder blades. Many people have a misconception that this is a tracking device but it actually is just a way to store your information on your pet in the off chance they do escape. Microchips have many different companies you can go through some of which have a yearly fee with extra benefits and others with no fee whatsoever. Microchips are the first things most vets, shelters, and animal control check for when they find a lost pet. So long as your information is correct and you keep it up to date the chances of the reuniting with your pet are much higher than without a microchip. Please know these are not only good for dogs and help especially with cats as only about 30% of cats are ever reunited with their owners. Save the stress and get your pet chipped by a local Veterinarian or Shelter today!
Did you know today is also recognized as national Pets for Vets Day? And we don't mean our hardworking staff here, we mean our Veterans whom have helped serve the country. This holiday is beneficial for both our pets and the vets that adopt because sometimes we all need someone to lean on. Please check out this link for a few ideas pertaining to celebrating this national event, and to see what started the Pets for Vets movement! https://nationaltoday.com/national-pets-veterans-day/ NATIONALTODAY.COM NATIONAL PETS FOR VETERANS DAY - October 21, 2020 | National Today
