For two years, we've proudly partnered with Homeward Trails Animal Rescue, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that provides pet adoption in Virginia, Washington, DC and Maryland. Homeward Trails finds homes for dogs and cats rescued from under-resourced shelters or whose owners can no longer care for them. Since 2001, they have saved more than 30,000 lives.
For years, Homeward Trails has been rescuing cats and dogs from Puerto Rico, where overpopulation is a huge issue. They are provided foster and adoptive homes, medical treatment, and behavior training.
Homeward Trails also takes in hundreds of special needs animals as well - those with treatable injuries and illnesses that most often are left behind in shelters. The Homeward team takes them in, gets them the best medical care around, and gives them a chance at the life they deserve! #vcacares

Did you know we often help triage and stabilize injured wildlife? If you have a question about injured or orphaned wildlife please call Blue Ridge Wildlife Center at 540-837-9000 open everyday 9am to 5pm. Some animals are found after those hours and we can stabilize them and transport as soon as possible to BRWC. Our manager, Sharyl, and one of our assistants volunteer at BRWC and can answer some of your questions about our local creatures. We stabilized and then transported this feisty Robin today.

Today is Global Cat Day, a special occasion devoted to unowned, free-roaming “community” cats. These cats often get a bad rap but it’s important to understand that these cats aren’t so different from our beloved pets. As a matter of fact, many are living on the streets as a result of being abandoned by their families.
We've included some tips to help manage and care for the community cats in your neighborhood.
Helping these cats starts by being a responsible guardian! Spay/neuter your own cat and keep them indoors.

We had our annual Christmas party and lunch -- with a socially distanced theme of course! we decorated Santa Hats and then shared secret Santa gifts. No hugs this year but we are all still together and that's what counts.
