A few days ago I posted a GIA pic of an unusual diamond with a microinclusion pattern that fluoresced green. It reminded me of some diamond slices I bought a few years ago so I checked and they also fluoresce green under longwave UV light! This one is about 7mm and available for $800. I'll post pictures of two others also but this is my favorite :-)

A star-crossed diamond. This 3.70 carat Fancy brownish greenish yellow diamond contains clouds of micro-inclusions that are typically composed of graphite and other elements such as hydrogen and nickel. These scatter light under normal lighting situations (image 2) and create dramatic yellowish green fluorescence under UV light (image 1). While this stone has some natural alpha radiation staining and cape defects that contribute to the yellow color, the cloud inclusion is the “star” of this diamond. It is one of the most interesting diamonds that the GIA laboratory in Carlsbad has ever seen. Photo: Diego Sanchez/GIA

What a myriad of colours! Sapphires from the Azad Kashmir region in Pakistan often show pronounced colour zonation of intense blue and pink or even nearly red bands, caused by local concentrations of Cr and Fe + Ti. Sometimes bi-coloured and/or colour-changing sapphires are unearthed from this deposit, too.
We have several beginner's virtual classes this week. Trust us, winter is more fun with a project!!! On Wednesday we will be teaching wire linking in our Beginning Wirework class. It is a great way to make necklaces, bracelets and especially earrings using beads or pearls.
On Thursday we will be teaching Pearl Knotting, which is actually one of our favorite things to do. It is such a great way to make a lovely gift, too....
And on Saturday we will be teaching stone drilling in our Drill Your Own Agates class!!!! We will put more information and links to sign up in the comments.

Do you love amethyst? It looks like Mother Nature does too! Miners discovered this heart-warming, heart-shaped amethyst and rock crystal quartz geode at the Santa Rosa mine in Artigas, Uruguay, near the border of Brazil. This region has rugged terrain and dense fine-grained igneous rock called basalt. The company Uruguay Minerals had just begun excavating when they were rewarded with this gorgeous specimen.
