Veranda on Highland was built in 1908 and was formerly known as the Merritt House. The architecture has evolved from Victorian Queen Anne style to a modern conversion with exterior modifications and outdoor dining areas. In December 2006, the Veranda opened its doors to diners for the first time.
The executive chef at Veranda on Highland, Chef Hansell, grew up in Mississippi and graduated from the Culinary School at the University of Southern Mississippi. Chef Hansell's menu is inspired by indigenous ingredients from local farms, purveyors, and artisans.
For an exclusive dining experience, the Veranda Supper Club allows diners to be treated with a four-course-meal prepared by Executive Chef Jeffrey Hansell with local beers, locally grown food and international wines.
