USCIS Updates Process for Accepting Petitions for Relatives Abroad
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services
January 31 at 3:25 PM ·
As part of the adjustment to our international office footprint to increase efficiencies, Form I-130, Petition for Alien Relative, will be processed domestically by USCIS or internationally by U.S. Department of State in certain circumstances beginning Feb.1, 2020. DOS will process Form I-130 locally if the petition is for an immediate relative and falls under blanket authorization criteria. It is at the discretion of DOS to accept the petition if it is for an immediate relative and you meet the “exceptional circumstances” criteria as outlined in the Policy Manual update. Please note: This change will not have an impact on U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) military #ServiceMembers stationed abroad. https://www.uscis.gov/news/news-releases/uscis-updates-process-accepting-petitions-relatives-abroad
