We usually try to include a hopeful or motivational message in the first post we share every week. We do this because we completely understand what a challenge it often is to feel inspired and energized on Mondays. But for those who have ADHD, the fight to remain focused and driven isn't limited to one part of one day. In a recent Psych Central article, two ADHD experts shared a series of valuable strategies that can make a world of difference: http://ow.ly/5BUF102pNyI

The final day of Mental Illness Awareness Week has arrived. Today is also World Mental Health Day. WMHD 2020 is focused on increased investment in mental health. Today and every day, remain vigilant, support your loved ones, and establish a foundation for the healthiest possible future. Self-care is an indispensable component of a healthy lifestyle. But your efforts to maintain the quality of life you deserve need to also include monitoring your mental health. Education and understanding are key tools in this endeavor. Today is National Depression Screening Day. If you think you might be experiencing symptoms of depression, or if you have concerns about a close friend or family member, a screening can provide you with important information. When someone is struggling with a mental health disorder, receiving care from an experienced professional can be an essential factor in their ability to achieve the future they deserve. But quality of life can be influenced by many factors. To expand possibilities and opportunities for all who are impacted by mental illness, we have to work together to eliminate shame and stigma. The continuing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has forced us all to make many changes in our lives. Even the process of choosing our elected officials has been impacted. For example, many states have reported record numbers of early voting, including citizens who voted by mail. However, millions of Americans throughout the country will still be voting in person on Election Day. If you intend to vote in person on November 3, it's a good idea to plan ahead to make sure you're doing so as safely as possible. To get all the information you need about staying safe while voting, please read this article: http://ow.ly/4f9T102r1Nf

One lesson we've learned in 2020 is that masks aren't only worn on Halloween anymore. Now that flu season has started, we encourage you to keep yourself safe by covering your mouth and nose with a mask. SHERIFF ENCOURAGES CITIZENS, TENNESSEE SHERIFFS
TO TAKE PART IN “PAY IT FORWARD” CHALLENGE
MARYVILLE, TENNESSEE – Hello friends. With the season of love (aka Valentine Day) approaching, many of us are thinking about loved ones and that perfect expression of our love and gratitude for those who mean the most to us. The past year has been tough on all of us, but I’ve learned that focusing on the needs of others is a good distraction from some of the bitter truths we are currently experiencing. As we forge ahead through 2021, we must remain hopeful that life will begin to return to normal from a deadly pandemic, a political storm, and the social unrest that overtook the country in the past few months. I'm grateful for my family, my friends, my deputies, and the great citizens of Blount County.
Now I ask you, what are you most grateful for?
Gratitude – it’s something that most of us struggle with, but doing unto others as you would have them do unto you is a good place to start to make a positive change not only in your lives, but in the lives of others as well. This is why I am asking each of you to accept my challenge to be the change that you want to see in the world by taking part in my “Pay It Forward” initiative.
What can you do to pay it forward?
Start with this:
• Focus on the positives in your life
• Look for the good in people
Next, take action. Here are a few ideas, but the possibilities are endless:
• Spend less time on social media and more time TALKING FACE TO FACE with one another.
• Find a non-profit and a cause you are passionate about and then contribute more of your resources.
• Perform random acts of kindness for friends and strangers alike.
o Smile more
o Hold the door open for someone
o Be courteous to other drivers
o Give someone your place in line at the store, post office, or other businesses
o Show kindness and respect to those less fortunate than you
o Pay for someone’s meal in line in the drive-thru
There are a multitude of things we can all do to make someone else’s life better, and at the same time be the change that we want to see.
Let us concentrate on counting our blessings as well as our contributions.
By taking part in this challenge and performing acts of kindness each day, you’ll see a change not only in yourself, but in the others you help. Kindness really is contagious. I want to see change as much as everyone else, but it must start at home, and it must start with each of us. I don’t know anyone who wants another year like 2020, so let’s do our part to see that doesn’t happen.
I ask that each of you accept this challenge and help spread positivity throughout our community - the sooner, the better. Please share this post and share your experiences on social media using the hash tag #PayItForwardBlountTN and #BlountSheriffTN.
I encourage you to share this post and ask your friends and family members to also accept this challenge as well. I am also asking that the Sheriffs in the other 94 Tennessee counties to take part in helping to change the world, one kind act at a time.
We ALL want 2021 to be a great year, and it all begins with us.

It's no secret that 2020 was a challenging year, especially for those who are living with a mental health disorder or addiction. Sadly, the fear of contempt kept many people from getting professional help. Together, we can end the stigma in 2021. http://ow.ly/1VZl102wiF9
