CAUGHT ON CAMERA: A thief crawling on the ground and removing catalytic converters from underneath a fleet of work vans.
This video was recorded outside Village Electric in Chelmsford.
Police said they're investigating a rash of similar thefts in Westford, Ashby and Maynard.
Chelmsford Deputy Chief Dan Ahern said catalytic converters are a hot commodity right now.
"The catalytic converters are popular items for thieves due to the ease by which they can be cut out and the resale value to unscrupulous scrap yards. The precious metals found inside these converters are bringing good money right now," Ahern said.
Village Electric owner Josh LeClaire said it's going to cost $1,800 to repair each one of his three vans.
If you have any information, call the Chelmsford Police Department.

WE NEED YOUR HELP
Good Afternoon Everyone! We hope that everyone is staying healthy and safe during this time. With that being said, we wanted to share what happened at our shop early this morning.
In Chelmsford, Massachusetts between 3:45AM-4:15AM on 4/15/20, a white Acura (appears to be around 2013 model) with black rims, cut the catalytic converters off of three of our trucks. Thankfully we have pictures and videos of these wonderful people, but unfortunately the license plate is not visible. We are asking you to please share this post as much as possible in hopes of helping law enforcement find and arrest them (report has been filed). There seems to be 4-5 people, potentially one female. This has been happening all too often in our town and we need to put a stop to this. Please help us and share. We will be forever grateful!
Sincerely,
Village Electric
