Real Estate Brokers: Heads Up!!!
St. John's University School of Law 2019 CLE Real Estate Law Weekend: From Contract through Closing
January 15, 2019
To my Friends and Colleagues: I have, once again, been entrusted with the honor and privilege of chairing the St John's University School of Law 2019 CLE Real Estate Law Weekend which is a comprehensive 16 credit CLE Weekend Real Estate Law Seminar focusing exclusively on real estate law, "From Contract through Closing". The last few years that I have chaired this Program have proven to be an overwhelming success, with sell-out crowds, that I attribute primarily to the pro-active participation by the Attendees, coupled with our top-rate Panel. We are pleased to advise that this year’s Lecture is, once again, being offered under the auspices of the Mattone Family Institute for Real Estate Law, which, through the generosity of Joseph M. Mattone, Sr ’53, ‘55L, ‘93HON, the Institute makes a first-rate education in real estate law available to all St John’s Law students as well as CLE programming to Practitioners, taking note of the rapidly-evolving world of real estate law in New York and beyond. I am, once again, pleased to advise that the Hon. Philip S. Straniere, former Acting Supreme Court Justice and Supervising Judge of the Civil Court, will accompany me on the Panel, together with Catherine Schiavone, Esq., Chief Clerk, Operations Group: Office of the Richmond County Clerk, Paul Malon, Esq., Senior Vice-President and Senior Agency Counsel for Fidelity National Title Insurance, Joseph Mattone, Jr, Esq. and Christopher Kidonakis, Esq. The Judge’s knowledge of real estate law is without equal as many of you may know from his published decisions, and from having attended his prior Lectures. Ms Schiavone will be able to provide invaluable insights as to matters involving recordings with the County Clerk and the City Register, which oftentimes perplex the most seasoned Real Estate Attorney. Mr Malon will be focusing on the daunting endeavor of understanding title insurance and Messrs Mattone and Kidonakis will be joining me in addressing the pitfalls of the day-to-day practice of real estate law. The Lecture will, no doubt, be cutting edge and the materials will be as current as the day of the Lecture. I intend to cover recent cases and other new matters involving the practice of real estate law in order that you, as Real Estate Legal Practitioners, may remain on the cutting edge of the law. I anticipate a highly inter-active dialogue on the topics that will be discussed. Furthermore, I, together with Professor John P. Clarke, Esq. will cover ethics as it affects Real Estate Legal Practitioners. Lastly, as many of you already know, the New York State Bar has instituted a Diversity, Inclusion and Elimination of Bias CLE requirement for experienced Attorneys effective January 1, 2018. Experienced Attorneys who are due to re-register on or after July 1, 2018 must complete at least one (1) credit hour in D&I. This Program will afford you that required credit. For those of you who are interested in attending, you may register for the Program by clicking on the following link:

In summary, the St John's University School of Law 2019 CLE Weekend Real Estate Law Seminar will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2019 (8:00AM – 5:15PM) and Sunday, February 10, 2019 (8:00AM – 3:20PM) at the Law School, 8000 Utopia Parkway, Jamaica, NY. The entire weekend will qualify for 16 credits – 3 Ethics, 6 Skills and 7 Practice, (and 1 D&I) for veteran and newly-admitted Attorneys. There will be breaks during the day and registration will include a Continental Breakfast and Lunch. Since I do have a wide latitude as to the topics, I have the luxury of focusing on those topics from the materials that the Attendees consider important. So feel free to E-Mail me with suggestions that you would like for me to focus on. The materials are quite comprehensive, and they will be made available upon registration in PDF format by means of an on-line website link that will be provided to those Registrants who would prefer to view the materials directly from their laptop, I-Pad, I-Phone or other mobile device.
