What makes gelato different from ice cream?
American ice cream is typically made with cream, milk, sugar and often times egg yolk for a fluffy, creamy consistency. Italian gelato has a higher proportion of milk, less cream, and never uses egg yolk. Gelato is typically churned at a much slower rate than regular ice cream incorporating less air, making it a more dense consistency. Gelato is also kept at a warmer temperature, which lends well to a silkier, softer texture. With a lower fat percentage than ice cream, the flavors in gelato tend to be richer and more apparent.

Generations old & known as the grape at the heart of Italy, Sangiovese is a slow ripening variety allowing the resulting wine to be richer and stronger in character. The palate will experience flavors of black cherry, plum, cocoa & subtle rose, blending with light oak to create a dry red with light body and velvety structure, finishing with crisp acidity. First we shared grilled cheese infused with wine. The wine sweetened the grill cheese. Delicious. Next we had the seasonal butternut squash bruschetta. Loved every bite. I found my type of wine and enjoyed three glasses of the Lorenzo Forte. Enjoyed a beautiful autumn Saturday in the sun and soaked in the view of the beautiful winery. Highly recommend."

It seemed like some of that "2020" energy carried into this year. No one wants to have to temporarily shutdown, it has been strenuous on all businesses that have been through the same situation. As we continue to bring you new vintages and unique new wines, we'd like to introduce the brains and hard work behind our handcrafted sips: Meet our Winemaker, Darrin Scott.
Darrin's real-world experience in winemaking, coupled with his educational background and genuine passion & interest in viticulture led him to where he is today, working diligently behind the scenes in our Winery. Darrin's journey to becoming a Winemaker began in high school, working at local vineyards on summer breaks and aiding in the bottling process when needed. His interest grew and became validated through studies at Penn State University where he graduated with a B.S. in Food Science. Over the years since graduating in 2012, Darrin has built his winery portfolio working hands-on in vineyards and winery settings in PA, the Finger Lakes, even New Zealand and Australia! Darrin's worldly knowledge and experience has lended well to the sophisticated and mature tastes we've wanted to achieve in our wines, and his genuine love for the process of winemaking from vineyard to glass has made him a very valuable asset to our Folino Estate team. Darrin has already made his mark here with the release of the rare & unique limited edition release of Moscato Nero, and the popular Rosato Cider that sold out quickly within a few short months. We commend Darrin on these 2 accomplishments and cannot wait to see what else he has in store.

Everyday I drive into Folino Estate for my shift I always take in the most beautiful view I could possibly work at. I absolutely love every aspect of my job. I work side by side with the best coworkers and absolutely love each and every guest I get to interact with.
Tell us an interesting fact about you?
I am currently attending East Stroudsburg University studying communication sciences and Disorders while being the president of my sorority Alpha Sigma Tau and the Autism Speaks Club.

Folino Estate Mercato
We’re back with our annual Outdoor Market!
The mercato is a traditional neighborhood street market that takes place in most Italian cities & are as ancient as the cities themselves. In the mercato, local vendors set up their movable shops to sell food, wearables, crafts, etc.
We hope to bring the charm & whim of an Italian Mercato to Folino Estate during the summer months.
Starting May 2nd thru October 31st, join us every Sunday from 11 AM to 3 PM, as we welcome local vendors & setup our Folino Estate Mercato just off our vineyard terrace.
