In 1934, Rose Marie Pegues, RN, became the first African American radiologic technologist. Already a nurse, Rose trained at St. Mary’s School in St. Louis, MO, became the first African American registered to take x-rays and went on to have a 41 year career in radiology. While it took many more years and the breaking down of restrictions, Rose’s trail-blazing achievement led to the opening of more training for African American students and broadened the areas of the medical field in which they could train and work. We salute Rose’s dedication and achievement! #BlackHistoryMonth
