Hurricane Watch and Preparedness.
Right now, we have five tropical cyclones in the Atlantic with Sally approaching the Gulf Coast. Here are a few things you can do to make sure you are prepared.
1. Check your homeowners’ or renters Insurance. See what is covered and any limitations there may be on your coverage. (Standard homeowners’ insurance does not usually cover flooding, plus there is a 30-day waiting period.)
2. Document the condition of your home and your belongings. This is also a good time to thoroughly review your policy - make sure large items that you have purchased or upgraded since you set up your policy are actually covered!
3. Ensure any important documents are protected in a waterproof/fireproof container. Consider having duplicates or copies in a place outside of your home.
4. Prep the outside of your home for severe weather: Trim shrubs, large plants and branches to help them stand up to the high winds and help reduce debris. Secure and anchor down patio furniture, grills or larger items that you are unable to bring inside. Clear Gutters and downspouts from any debris and make sure they are secure and not loose.
5. Prep the inside of your home by moving electronics away from large windows and doors. Have an emergency kit with bottled water, non-perishable foods, flashlights, batteries, first aid kit and a radio. Discuss an emergency meeting spot in the event that your home is destroyed.
6. Get ready when the storm is announced – Fill your car’s gas tank, charge phones and electronics and freeze empty bottles to use in a cooler or your fridge in case of power outage.
7. Should your home experience any damage, make sure you call Walker & Frick Construction as we are always here to help. 804-282-1281.
Possible severe storms throughout the Richmond area again tonight!! Share with us photos of your surrounding area or any damage you may have incurred from the heavy rains.
With more rain in the forecast for this weekend - Here is a fun project you can do alone or with the kids. Grab a Sharpie Paint Oil-Based Marker (regular markers will wash off!) and go to the dollar store for some cheap plates and mugs to design! Choose ones without too much glaze for the best results.
Let the design sit for an entire day or as close to 24 hours as you can wait. Place your creation in a COLD oven, turn the temp to 300 and the timer on 2 hours. Once your masterpiece is done baking, be sure to let it cool. Then snap a photo and share it with us!!
If money was not an issue and you could upgrade only one room in your home - which room would you choose to renovate?!
Thrifty Thursday - Today we are talking about Mirrors!
Most likely you have some hanging around the house that could use an upgrade or just stored away in an attic – if not, ask a family member or just head on over to a local thrift store to find your next masterpiece.
Give that mirror a quick up-do with some paint or add a rustic vibe with some reclaimed wood. If you are feeling more advanced, head to Lowes and get a backing to attach to your mirror and add a little trim for a more high-end look.
Adding stones, rope, tile or even lace and fabric can really transform any mirror into a must have statement piece!
Happy Memorial Day Weekend.
While this year is a little different with social distancing - let us remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
