Are you experiencing neck and/or low back pain? This can be related to poor posture, causing extra tension on the spine. Below is an exercise taught by one of our PTs, focusing on improving upright posture. The goal is to stand up straight with your heels, buttock, shoulders, and head all touching the wall. Hold this position for 5-10 seconds and perform 10 reps at a time. If you're concerned about your posture, give us a call and one of our PTs can help.

Are you experiencing neck and/or low back pain? This can be related to poor posture causing extra tension and torque on the cervical and lumbar spines. Natural alignment of the spine should allow for your a slight curvature of your neck, between your shoulder blades, and your low back with your ears, shoulders, knees and ankle all being in line. Below is an exercise being taught by Karl, a Physical Therapist in our Malvern clinic, focusing on improving upright posture. The goal of this exercise is to stand up straight with your heels, buttock, shoulders, and head all touching the wall. Hold this position for 5-10 seconds and perform 10 reps at a time, to improve overall posture. Spring has finally arrived, which means it is time for gardening and yard work! Lindsay, a Physical Therapist at our Malvern Location, is displaying ways to utilize equipment around the home to protect your joints and to allow for proper body mechanics to reduce stress and strain on your low back. She suggests utilizing a stool to bring you closer to the ground reducing strain on your low back, kneeling on a foam pad to reduce stress on your knees and hips, and to bring your gardening pots up on a higher surface to prevent bending when planting seeds.
