Your purchase INCLUDES: Pre-Measured Dry Scone Mix • Lemon Curd • Delicious Shortbread Cookies • Two Tea Infusers • Shadelands Special Blend Holiday Tea and Two WCHS Commemorative Cookbooks. This festive collection takes the place of the canceled Holiday Victorian Tea at the Shadelands Ranch Museum due to COVID-19. The Holiday Faire is still happening as usual: November 28 to December 13, 2020 from 10 am–4 pm daily! More information: http://wchistory.org/shop/
For the past 37 years, the Walnut Creek Historical Society (WCHS) has hosted a Holiday Victorian Tea at the Shadelands Ranch Museum. Due to public health indoor social distancing requirements, the WCHS finds it necessary to cancel this incredibly popular event for the safety of our supporters and volunteers. Over 1,400 people annually make the Holiday Victorian Tea part of their own holiday traditions, and the WCHS doesn’t want anyone to miss out on experiencing a new version of the tea in the comfort of their homes. In lieu of hosting the Tea at Shadelands Museum, the WCHS has created a “Tea for Two” box containing the following special items: Pre-measured Scone Dry Mix Homemade Lemon Curd Delicious Shortbread Cookies Shadelands Secret Special Blend Holiday Tea Two Tea Infusers Two WCHS Commemorative Cookbooks The Holiday Victorian Tea is Walnut Creek Historical Society’s biggest fundraiser of the year and your support will help offset our loss of income in 2020. This fundraiser will help the WCHS by generating funds for the Museum, Third Grade Living History Program and guided Downtown Walking Tours. For a cost of $44 per box ($22 per person), you will receive all of the above packed in an attractive box. Start your holiday shopping early and purchase multiple boxes of this thoughtful and perfect gift. We offer contact-free delivery within Contra Costa County at no extra charge or pick up at Shadelands Ranch Museum. In addition, we will mail boxes to any of your recipients within the Continental United States via two-day Priority Mail (shipping charges apply). All boxes will be delivered, shipped or be ready for pick up between November 28 and December 13. This unique fundraiser will enable everyone to enjoy the WCHS holiday tradition with friends and family until we can all be together again at Shadelands Ranch Museum. Please note: The 38th Annual Holiday Faire will still take place at Shadelands Ranch Museum (2660 Ygnacio Valley Road) pursuant to County Health Regulations requiring face masks and social distancing. Do your shopping locally for beautiful handmade gifts and delicious food items. Please stop by November 28 through December 13, 2020 from 10am-4pm daily. Hoping everyone out there stays cool today! photo #P4449B, Marsh Creek Springs Pool, c. 1950's.
Anyone ever once lived on Magnolia Way? A former resident just sent us these digitized slides of what his parents' neighborhood once looked like when they purchased their new home back in the late 50's. All that open space! If anyone has photos of old Walnut Creek they would like to share, please feel free to contact us at wcshadelands @sbcglobal.net! We would love digitized versions, or we could arrange for you to drop off hard copies which we would be happy to scan and return to you with digitized copies on a thumb drive! They would be scanned right here safely at the museum. Please feel free to DM with any questions! Photos are accessions 2020.013.002, .004, and .006, c. 1956-1957
If you haven't had a chance to visit us and tour the museum, you may be unfamiliar with the connection between Shadelands Ranch Museum and Scotty's Castle located in Death Valley. This two-story Mission Revival and Spanish Colonial Revival style villa was built by Chicago millionaire Albert Mussey Johnson and his wife, Bessie Penniman Johnson. Bessie was the youngest daughter of Shadelands Ranch owner, Hiram Penniman. The villa was built as a vacation home for the couple in the 1920's. Tours of the home stopped after a devastating flood took place in 2015, but restoration efforts have been in the works since then and they are scheduled to reopen in 2021. This video, by the Death Valley Natural History Association offers a fantastic look into those efforts. It's well worth a watch! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0c5TbKryiY&feature=youtu.be YOUTUBE.COM Scotty's Castle Restoration Update 5: Conserving the Collections

Contactless drop off will be provided! Help “fill the need for food” by participating in the Community Food Drive. It’s a simple way to help!
