By now you may have heard of CBD.
NOT CBD from Marijuana but CBD from the HEMP PLANT which is now legal in all 50 states.
But have you heard about "CBDa" which is a different compound than CBD?
CBD in raw form, in the LIVE hemp plant, is called CBDa which stands for Cannabidiolic acid. CBDa is the pre-cursor to CBD. In the live hemp plant, there is actually no CBD. Before processing, CBD exists only in an acid form called Cannabidiolic acid (CBDa).
If you ate the live hemp plant, you would get only CBDa and no CBD. When the hemp plant is harvested, dried out, and exposed to heat the CBDa converts to a non-acid element that we know as CBD.
Cannabis research pioneer Raphael Mechoulam has been researching the benefits of CBD since the 1960's.
Mechoulam is responsible for the discovery of the endocannabinoid system (ECS) in humans in the 1990's. He and his team are now researching CBDa; the live raw form of CBD.
In a 2018 British Journal of Pharmacology study, Mechoulam and his co-authors wrote that Cannabidiolic Acid (CBDa) could be more effective than CBD. Those initial clinical tests found the acids have yielded results on par, and even exceeding, existing treatments, without the side effects.
Mechoulam believes that the naturally occurring CBD acid (CBDa) is a thousand times more potent than CBD in binding to a particular serotonin receptor thought to be responsible for alleviating nausea and anxiety.
Other promising research results suggest the active CBDa could be effective in treating inflammation that brings on arthritis, anxiety, and inflammatory bowel disease.
Dr. Steven Trobiani a Medical Doctor and a board-certified neurologist with a focus on the evaluation and treatment of pain. He has a nearly 40-year history with the treatment of pain. In 1998 Pfizer hired Dr. Trobiani to serve as a spokesperson for Celebrex to introduce the drug to the medical community in Minneapolis-St. Paul.
Dr. Trobiani says that research shows that CBDa has been scientifically established as a pure Cox2 inhibitor and because of that, we can now claim that it is effective in the relief of pain and inflammation.
