Our world just like yours is so much different this year than last. Last year we were just a couple of weeks away from having our annual Ham and Beans dinner and this year we have had to push it out a couple of months. Due to the Covid19 Pandemic the Hamilton-Walters Marine Corps League is having their annual dinner on Saturday, 4/10/2021 from 5:00 to 7:30 pm at the Burlington Memorial Auditorium, 200 Front Street, Burlington, IA, west side under the overhang. This will be a drive through/pick up only event (no seating inside) due to the pandemic and the restrictions placed on dining in. The ticket donation will be $5.00 each and includes corn bread and a desert. For $5.00 you will receive 28 oz of Ham and Beans along with two big pieces of corn bread and some cookies.
We are disappointed about not being able to break bread with all of our great friends that help support our event each year, but next year we hope to be back to normal. We are still soliciting donations from local vendors to give door prizes out and those will be mailed to each and every winner, so please make sure that when filling out your ticket you write clear enough for a Marine to read it (crayons will be available).
The Marine Corps League supports a number of local charitable causes, including Toys for Tots, an annual scholarship at Southeastern Community College, and gas for the van that takes veterans to appointments at the VA Hospital in Iowa City.
Tickets will be available from all members of the league after our 2/8/2021 meeting, sold at the door, or by calling 319-753-2908 to have tickets delivered.

Free Food Giveaway Saturday

Calvary Baptist Church in Burlington will once again be giving away free food boxes from the USDA’s “Farmers to Families Program” on Saturday (Dec. 19).
Church leaders are warning the public, however, that the need is so great that the food will likely run out well before its conclusion.
The giveaway will be from 8 a.m. to noon at Calvary Baptist Church, 2710 West Ave. There are no requirements to receive a box. Simply enter the church parking lot from the West Avenue side, where volunteers will load your vehicle with a gallon of milk and a box of food.
This is the latest in a series of food giveaways by Calvary Baptist Church. According to church officials, all 1,200 boxes of food at the previous giveaway were gone within the first two hours.
