Spence D. Harper, MD, is an exceptional board-certified podiatric physician, providing the highest caliber of podiatric care at Wasatch Foot and Ankle Center with two locations in Heber City and Salt Lake City, Utah.
Dr. Harper has over two decades of experience and is board-certified in surgery with the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. He encourages a healthy lifestyle, focuses on conservative care where appropriate, and happily treats men, women, and children of all ages.
After completing his undergraduate training at The University of Utah, Dr. Harper graduated with honors from Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine (FKA Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1994. He finished a two-year surgical residency in 1996 at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, where he served as the chief resident during his final year.
In 1996, Dr. Harper became a proud diplomate of the American Board of Podiatric Surgeons. He’s also certified in the use of shockwave treatment (Dornier and Ossatron) for plantar fasciitis (heel spur syndrome), and the use of arthroscopic and endoscopic procedures of the foot and ankle.
Active in his ever-changing field, Dr. Harper is a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association and the Utah Podiatric Medical Association. He’s also a member of the Mountain West Podiatric Group, where he previously served as President and the Utah Podiatry Group (UPG) located in the new office buildings attached to Salt Lake Regional Hospital. UPG offers advanced reconstructive surgery of the ankle and foot as well as advanced diabetic foot care.
Dr. Harper serves as an attending physician at the Health South Podiatric Residency Program. He has affiliations with prestigious Utah clinics, hospitals, and organizations, such as the Cottonwood Surgical Center, South Towne Surgical Center, Heber Valley Medical Center, LDS Hospital, Intermountain Medical Center Surgical Center, Park City Medical Center, the Avenues Surgical Center, Salt Lake Surgical (SCA), Mount Olympus Surgical Center, and St. Marks' Hospital where he previously served as Chairman of the Podiatry Division.
To further refine his skills and knowledge, Dr. Harper networks with colleagues, attends seminars and conferences, subscribes to professional subscriptions, and participates in professional mentoring programs. He’s completed multiple diabetic ulceration and bunion (pain) studies, and he’s currently participating in bunion and ulceration clinical research trials with Jean Brown Research.
Dr. Harper stays abreast of the latest medical tools and technology and strives to provide the most affordable, fastest, and smoothest path back to health. Dr. Harper treats each patient directly, and his solo practice isn’t owned by any large group or health organization, allowing him to spend ample time providing men, women, and children with the empathic and personalized care they deserve.

Away from the medical office, Dr. Harper is married with three beloved children. As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoys camping, fishing, hunting, and riding all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) with his family. He also enjoys riding his tractor around the yard and driving his 1974 Toyota Land Cruiser.
