Well, it's that time of year again. In an effort to streamline the system and to continue our effort of keeping people safe, we will be doing "drive-through" flu clinics this year. We are making flu shots available daily and they will be given by an RN in the parking lot. --DO NOT CALL THE OFFICE to schedule, instead, click on https://washingtonavenuepediatrics.fullslate.com/ to schedule your children for their flu shot. --- You need to enter each child and their DOB individually, so we can accurately transfer them into our system. ---Follow the signs for the flu clinic "flow" in our parking lot. Stay in your car ---NO SICK VISITS. We will be unable to check your child, so if you feel your child may be ill, please reschedule. ---Please be patient. We are sure there will be unforeseen issues as we try this new system. Thank you for your understanding in advance. WASHINGTONAVENUEPEDIATRICS.FULLSLATE.COM Washington Avenue Pediatrics
Hey! As you may already know, we no longer have a traditional waiting room. In order to make the check-in process easier and to let us know you have arrived without having to call, we are implementing Healow check-in. You can confirm your demographics, insurance info, complete your covid screening and let us know you have arrived and your status will update directly on our computer screen. Hopefully, this will continue to make our new normal more efficient and easier to use. Thanks for your patience and understanding as we implement this new technology. Hey, Just wanted to give everyone an update on our drive through flu clinics. They have been going smoothly and we are adding new times during the week. ---Many of the booking issues brought to our attention were a function of the system being inundated in the first hour. There seems to be no problems currently. ---We will have weekend hours at some point to be determined in the future. ---Remember flu clinic is for current patients only and no sick kids at the flu clinic. ---If your child has a well check-up in the next few months, they can get their flu shot at that time (but unfortunately, not their siblings unless they also have a check-up) Thanks for all your patience. Hey Everyone, Just wanted to update everyone about some recent changes in our workflow and some things to do as we prepare for 2020 Flu Clinics. --We have created a "car visit" section of the parking lot. If you are scheduled for a sick visit, you will notice a coned off area with numbered spots. When you arrive, please note which spot you are parked at so the doctor can find you easily. Car visits have gone well and allowed us to keep sick patients out of the office --We will be testing different methods of flu clinic this year, which we will be relayed to you in the coming weeks. In preparation, please make sure you have access to sign into the patient portal as we will be allowing you to schedule your own shots ..Link here :(https://mycw11.eclinicalweb.com/portal298/jsp/100mp/login_otp.jsp)...the user name, if you have not set one up, is usually your child's last and first name and the year of their birth (i.e doejane2004) and you can reset your password if you forgot or just click the mobile phone button and enter your child's information. ---Lastly, here is a good link from a pediatrician that tested a bunch of masks on her kid for fit and comfort..hopefully it will help. Look for more information in the coming weeks on flu clinics, but again, please be patient as we are figuring out how to fly this plane while we are in the air 😜. We are doing our best to keep you and our staff safe, while continuing to provide the best care possible. Here is a good article that highlights some of the features of Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C). This seems to be a new illness, so we don't even know what we don't know, but it is rare and kids seem to be fairly ill on presentation. As always, contact us if your child is not acting well. As we head toward the end of this challenging year, it can be difficult to be reminded of how fortunate we are. All the staff here are lucky enough to have devoted their lives to promote the health and welfare of children. Pediatrics is often overlooked as a specialty as, relative to other medical specialties, we are considered overworked and underpaid. What those people don't know, is the special bond we are able to create with our patients, their families, and our community. We have seen a lot of loss this year and felt the pain of that loss and we have seen isolation and felt despair at that feeling of isolation. Yet, we also have seen perseverance and how well children adapt to the new world around them and we appreciate more what we have missed. Whether it is the ability to spend more time with our children, to not spending all weekend driving our kids from all the scheduled activities thus allowing them to bake, dance, or just play, or just reaching out to people that we miss, these moments will be cherished. We want to thank everyone who went out of their way to recognize us with a kind gift for everyone at Washington Avenue Pediatrics and we hope to continue to earn your loyalty and trust with your most precious commodity. Happy Holidays and have a Happy New Year. With Love, Washington Avenue Pediatrics
"In the middle of every difficulty lies an opportunity"-Albert Einstein When we were first confronted with the problem of COVID, the question we had was how to keep our patients and staff safe. With this in mind, we decided to keep all "sick" visits out of the office and do only checkups inside, as the well baby and a sprained ankle shouldn't be in the same space as cough and fever. As the year progressed and the temperature dropped, this has become increasingly difficult. This prompted us to create what we like to call WashingTENT Avenue Pediatrics. The combination of these weather-protected, heated (kind of) rooms and additional rooms we constructed indoors with a separate entrance have allowed us to continue to keep our sick patients separate and safe. Also, as a result of all the positive feedback from our drive thru flu clinics, this space will be utilized for that purpose in the fall. We will continue to look for solutions to help us overcome whatever obstacles that are placed before us to keep our patients healthy.
