Several federal buildings in Louisville, Kentucky have been ordered to be closed for the week (September 21 to September 25). The reasons for the closure have not been announced, but there is belief that it could be due to an announcement regarding the Breonna Taylor investigation.
The U.S. District Courthouse is among the buildings ordered to be closed. In the order, signed on Friday September 18 by Chief Judge Greg Stivers, states, “All matters scheduled for in-court appearances during this time period shall be continued or converted to videoconference proceedings, at the discretion of the presiding judge.”
Louisville’s U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services field office will be closed for the week as well, with its website stating the closure is “due to a court order.”

Compassionate release is one of the main ways a prisoner can be released early from federal prison, and it involves a judge approving a reduced prison sentence. In order for this occur however, the prisoner must first ask for the warden to approve their request.
During the initial three months of the COVID-19 pandemic, upwards of 10,000 federal prisoners applied for compassionate release. Most of these requests; however, are either denied completely, or denied a response at all. In total, less than 1 percent of compassionate release requests were approved.

According to the State of Wisconsin Department of Transportation, driving under the influence is quite prevalent in Wisconsin. In 2015, there were approximately 24,000 drunken driving convictions.
In terms of the most likely demographic to get behind the wheel while under the influence, men are more likely to do so. Men between the ages of 21-24 in specific are the most likely to be involved in a drunken driving incident that ends fatally.

In a span of six days, 172 immigrants were arrested by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in six sanctuary cities. From October 3-October 9, arrests were made in New York, Philadelphia, Seattle, Baltimore, Denver and Washington D.C. The individuals arrested were already facing deportation, and 80 percent of these individuals were either convicted of crimes or had charges pending. Most of the arrests were made in New York, with 54 individuals being arrested.

Define American is an advocacy group, aiming to change how Americans view immigrants. They will start by shifting how they are viewed on TV, in hopes to change “the conversations in Hollywood’s writers’ rooms” and “pave the way for immigration policy changes in Washington”.
According to research, TV shows do not accurately depict immigrants. Define American hopes that showing immigrants in a new light on TV will result in more Americans being in favor of letting immigrants into the United States.

During a traffic stop, if a law enforcement officer suspects you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs, you may be asked to perform one of the three standard field sobriety tests. The three standard tests are the walk-and-turn test, horizontal gaze nystagmus test and the one-leg stand test. However, according to a study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) these tests are not always accurate. The November 2020 United States presidential election led to four more states voting for legalization of recreational marijuana use. Despite some Wisconsin cities such as Madison taking steps to decriminalize marijuana, the state of Wisconsin still remains as one of the 15 states that has yet to outlaw marijuana use both recreationally and medicinally. Under Wisconsin law, possession of marijuana is a misdemeanor and any subsequent offenses are considered felonies.
Despite numerous states’ recent legislation decriminalizing marijuana use, driving under the influence of marijuana remains illegal in all 50 states. Just like an alcohol OWI, having a prohibited amount of marijuana in your system while you are operating behind the wheel will result in an OWI charge.

Since November, over 170 applications for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program have been approved. The program was created by President Obama in an aim to avoid deportation of immigrants illegally brought to the United States by their parents when they were minors. Under the program, more than 650,000 individuals are shielded. President-elect Joe Biden stated that he plans to reinstate the DACA program upon taking office.
