For parents who may be wondering how to help your child (or children) related to COVID-19, here are some suggestions:
1. Ask your child to tell you what they know about the virus. This helps you know if your child may have misinformation or some underlying fears.
2. It may be helpful to invite your child to draw pictures or do other activities to express themselves related to COVID-19.
3. Limit their screen time related to COVID-19 (and limit your screen time or news intake related to it too--children often overhear or pick up on what their parents are viewing.)
4. Be extra patient and provide comfort if your child is worried. Remember, you may need to repeat your explanations and comforting words multiple times throughout the day--this is normal.
5. Create a new routine if your current routine is disrupted. It may even help to write or draw the new routine and hang it up in your home. Routine reduces anxiety.
6. Have fun! Make time to do some fun things together to help reduce the stress of everyone in your family.
Good reminder. Try teaching these techniques to your child before the next tantrum.
What a great diagram! We can't always control our circumstances, but we have control over our reactions.

Understanding what we can and can't control can lower frustration and help motivate people to improve what they can control. The circle of control helps identify the things we can and can't control and here is a great diagram of it!
A great reminder to look for the good. Kind words have a lasting impact.
Put that Halloween candy to good use this year!
