Secure your load. Utah Highway Patrol December 28, 2020 at 5:37 AM · We need your help! Today at approximately 2:20 PM an unknown vehicle traveling eastbound on SR-6 at MM 229 lost part of its cargo. A portion of a concrete landscaping block fell from this vehicle, ricocheted off the highway and struck through the windshield of a black Subaru. Inside the Subaru was a female passenger who was struck in the head by this cement block causing her to suffer severe head trauma. As head of the traffic squad in Salt Lake City, he managed patrolmen who would stand on small platforms and time traffic going each direction. He wanted to create a way to control traffic that didn’t require patrolmen to stand for long hours in difficult weather conditions, and pieced together a simple two-light signal that could be controlled from a covered booth. Five years after Wire invented the traffic light, Salt Lake City became the first interconnected traffic signal system in the United States.
